Just came from lunch with one of my contractor clients who has about 300 employees. He currently pays about $5K per employee in health insurance premiums. Will drop the benefit come 2014 and pay the $2K fine. He estimates it will save them about $500K a year.

Our firm will probably keep health insurance for our 100 employees because they are made up of high skilled professionals that will demand not being part of a government system.

You will see a two level system of healthcare in this country. The poor will be on gov't subsidized bare bones rationed care while upper middle and up will be able to continue their top of the line care that everyone gets now.

I said this many moons ago when this was just starting to come out. What is the incentive for an employer to keep benefits when they can do just what you are saying and put their money right back in their pockets? Hell, they could even hire 5 more people and say that are doing their part to stimulate the economy.

As far as your upper scale professionals, I am sure there are a bunch of these types unemployed right now that would take those jobs in a heartbeat without employer provided benefits and be able to ramp up to speed in the job pretty quickly.

Not in our profession. Demand is greater than supply. We even pay half of family coverage.

Why should you get better care than the average guy? Are you that more important?

No, we'll get better healthcare because we will pay a higher premium outside the system. Those in the gov't system will have to have healthcare like you'd see on Benny Hill skits...

It will be about volume and not real treatment. Just throw pills at him, he will be fine. We find one combo that will work for him.

I've raised this scenerio since the cnnsi/worldcrossing days. A gov't/private sector hybrid that is basic coverage but is cost-effective and is centered on preventive care that utimately saves many billions. And the middle and uppers stay the course.

Per MSN, Marco Rubio is set to be the GOP responder to oprama's state of the union address.

Apparently being the response person is the kiss of death if you want to be your party's president. The last ten: Mitch Daniels, Paul Ryan, Bob McDonnell, Bobby Jindal, Kathleen Sebelius, Jim Webb, Tim Kaine, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Tom Daschle. heh

You have to go all the way back to 1985 and WJ Clinton to find a SotUA responder who went on to be prez.

Obamacare is designed to make private healthcare so unmanageable that we will "forced" to abandon private healthcare and go to single payer.

Single payer is the end. Obamacare is the means.

BTW, all those young people who voted for Obama are about experience Obamacare like a bucket of ice water to the face. They will start being forced to pay for health insurance which few of them really need, just to lower the premiums for us old geezers who can better afford it. The youngsters are also starting to be laid off from their full-time jobs with health benefits and compete for two part-time jobs with no health benefits.

And they haven't even begun to feel the burn of paying the mind-boggling debt that has been run up in the past 4 years. Young people have been screwed more than anyone else by liberal economic policies. And when they start to feel it, they are all going to turn into a bunch of Alex P. Keaton's.

For a preview of what government-run health care will look like, all you have to do is look at the VA.

etc, etc, etc. Now the federal government wants to take as good care of us as they are doing for wounded/traumatized war vets. No thank you.

Our healthcare system today is basically unchanged, except that children can stay on a polcy til age 26. The meat of opramacare doesn't begin kicking in til 2014.

Health insurance premiums have doubled every 7-8 years. We should just leave the system as is, right, with 55-60 mil uninsured wearing out ERs and hospitals while watching family annual premiums crest 30k/yr?

Is that your knuckleheaded plan? The No Plan?

Our county school system is on lock-down today with an estimated 44% attendence at the HS because someone threatened a Columbine on Face Book. I'm for banning Face Book.

If the current system results in health insurance premiums doubling every 7-8 years and family annual premiums being 30k/yr, then Obamacare is now right on track to produce health insurance premiums doubling every 7-8 years and family annual premiums being 30k/yr, except with a lot more government paperwork for providers, and whopping incentives for employers to stop offering health care to full time employees.

Obamacare fixes the health care cost problem like banning rifles with bayonet notches and pistol grips fixes school shootings.

Again. Our current healthcare track is unsustainable. What's your plan?
