Re: Baseball
Unfortunately, there isn't any rail within direct access of the stadium (the closest that METRORail comes is about a mile and a half or so to the north). Obviously, the bus runs pretty frequently along that stretch of NW 7th Street but it doesn't lend itself to businesspersons who might willing to catch a game right after work.
To that end, we're exanding our rail line here in Houston and one of the new lines drops you off about a block or so south of MMP. If we ever get a team worth watching, that'll be a nice coup to add to the Main Street line that's about seven blocks to the west. Studies show that rail lines built to within four blocks or less of a sports facility have high game-related ridership).

I don't see a whole lot of parking there. If there isn't decent public transportation how is this going to work?
Charlotte has been smart in building their sports facilities uptown near the rail line, but it also has ample parking for the commuters.

Re: Baseball
Same thing here in Houston. To be honest, the whole project in Miami seems to be built with the puprose of lining pockets. The logistics just don't make any sense. Parking for the new yard will be exclusively reliant upon those parking garages on the north and south boundaries of the facility. It's going to be a pain-in-the-ass to get out of there if you stay for the whole game and there's a decent crowd (say 20K or more). Getting out of the old Orange Bowl was already a pain in the ass for that very reason--lack of parking.don't see a whole lot of parking there. If there isn't decent public transportation how is this going to work?

I just recently did a report on rail ridership associated with NFL games, comparing our gameday ridership with Cleveland, Denver and San Diego. San Diego gets a whopping 24% of their gameday attendance using transit to and from the games, and they have boatloads of parking around Qualcomm. Denver gets about 11% and us and Cleveland get about 7-8% (although, we have quite a bit of parking compared to Denver and Cleveland).

Re: Baseball
The South Florida Tri Rail won't even be going to the new ball park. Everyone in Broward Co that I know says they are not about to fight that traffic and parking to go there. The whole thing is a boondoggle. I never thought baseball would last in South Florida. This stupid thing could be the end of it.

Re: Baseball
My first thought was 'giant space shuttle', but yeah, I can definitely go along with 'cruise ship'...

Re: Baseball
It definitely looks like someone didnt get the memo that baseball teams weren't building modern looking football stadiums anymore.

Re: Baseball
I can't quite explain it but the thing looks a lot worse in person. It almost looks like something Communist Block Russia would've built in one of their tropical precincts back in the 60s/70s to try to to one-up the Astrodome or Superdome.
