Why do you hate America, aTm?

ESPN is in full-bore attack mode. I heard Andy Katz go on a rant about how Colorado, Nebraska, Utah, Boise, all these moves made sense but A&M...A&M was making this move out of simple ego and greed. A couple people on ESPN have briefly mentioned the LHN as a source of contention but ultimately A&M is getting more neg publicity from them then Texas. For obvious reasons.

I just don't think the Texas legislature is going to let A&M go to the SEC possibly leaving Tech in a lurch

I think if they try and stand in the way of this so that they can protect Tech, it will be political suicide for them.

aTm has a lot more political juice with the state than Baylor and Tech combined.

Also, they did nothing to protect SMU, Houston, TCU or Rice and allowed the Texas schools to disolve the SWC.

All any representatives opposed to this can do is work in back channels and make threats and then try to make good on them in 2013 assuming they get reelected. The next legislative session is January 2013 which likely would be after A&M has already played a season in the SEC.

There could be a special session now, but Governor Aggie would have to call it. Seems unlikely.

Even then, their only stick is funding. It would be nuts to actually cut education budget for a school because of athletics which are privately funded. They could threaten our endowment, which is primarily a fund which is divided between A&M and Texas, but that battle (which is ongoing anyway) would threaten Texas' slice of the pie also, and everyone else combined doesn't have the power that A&M and Texas could wield.

SMU, Houston, TCU or Rice
All small alumni schools with little political clout. During the break-up of the SWC, the biggest groups in the legislature (plus the governor with Baylor) made sure their schools were protected. This is different. A&M only has it's alumni supporting it while it'll have that of every school but Houston, TCU and SMU against it (the latter schools have hope that they'll be added to the Big 10). UT alumni will be very much against it.

For what it's worth, I have a friend close to the situation, whom I trust, who says it's a done deal.

No, all he said is that A&M will not meet opposition from the SEC ADs. There was a rumor that three or four would vote no initially.

It's a smart move by the SEC. An opening with a large Texas school that has a large following in Texas major markets of the state.

Can't blame A&M either, especially with the creation of the Longhorn 'recruiting' network

I think the Mizzou, FSU and Clemson rumor has legs given what little bit I have heard.
