Ummm isn't the whole point of the AFFORDABLE care act to lower the cost of insurance as people are forced to buy or pay the TAX?bluetick wrote:The current average plan for a family of four is approximately $20,500. Family of FOUR.puterbac wrote:Ummmm....tick....surely this isn't correct is it?

The IRS projection is for a family of five. Family of FIVE.
Cheaper in 2016 for five than it was for four in 2012? When family healtcare premiums generally rise 6-8% on average. Heh - so yes, puter - it may not be that rosey.

I always thought the ACA was intended to get more paying insureds into the healthcare system and therefore staunch the big yearly raises in premiums. If those dubious IRA projections are even close to being correct, then that will be mission accomplished and will indeed be "doing shit."puterbac wrote:Ummm isn't the whole point of the AFFORDABLE care act to lower the cost of insurance as people are forced to buy or pay the TAX?bluetick wrote:The current average plan for a family of four is approximately $20,500. Doesn't seem to be doing shit does it?
Of course as you know I've always said the whole intent was to fuck it all up beyond repair so that the screams for single payer are the "only" solution. Off to a good start.
You got a payroll tax break from oprama two years ago. You failed to appreciate it at the time...never said thank-you...but now you moan about it's passing.Toemeesleather wrote:Thank God nobody's taxes are going up to make up the difference.
The Money article I posted forecasted over 20k for a family of four for 2012. The actual total in 2011 was $19,300. If you interpolate correctly, a family of of FIVE would probably be more than 23-24k. Just trying to keep it real.puterbac wrote:
Where do you get 23-24k for a family of 5 today? I'm a family of 5 and the total cost was 15k ish. Which still seems crazy high to me.

Tick, correction ALL DOCTORS in the US make around that figure for the first 3-10 years depending on how long they do residency/fellowship. It changes a little by where you are but not by very much. When I was at 9.95 per hour the interns in New York were only about 10.50 an hour and that was if they were lucky enough to be in a program that didn't violate the 80 hour per week 50 week per year maximum (many programs do violate it routinely, mine did not they stuck right to it. We didn't get any more time off but we didn't violate it either otherwise it would have been less than that per hour).bluetick wrote:The Money article I posted forecasted over 20k for a family of four for 2012. These are national averages so your 15k ish is on the low side. You live in TN and doctors hear rootinely make $12/hr, or so I here.
I'm paying 18K for a family of 3 (still carrying my unemployed 25 year old son). Of course, Mrs. JD goes to the MD weekly, whether she's sick or not, and demands an MRI every time she breaks a fingernail, so I figure our insurer is losing money on us.sardis wrote:I have a BC/BS plan for my family of 5 at around the 15K-16K range.
