"I wasn't feeling his "fuck yo middle class" position, though."

I'm sure you're feeling very middle class after visiting the $6 million pad in Tribeca...

Suicidal lady with shotgun fires it, cops sneak up behind her and wrestle the gun away. I wonder if she is white?

I put the odds at 75% that she is.

It reminds of Chris Rock talking about the guy who opened fire on the White House with an automatic weapon a few years ago and was tackled by police. Once, he heard that last part, Rock knew it was a white dude firing the weapon.

I guess I'm naive, but I was wondering why you were wondering if she was white...

For me personally (if I was a cop), my decision to shoot or not would be based far more on how hot she was than her race. Along those same lines, I'd shoot pretty much any guy...

so I think the 21 quarantine is a good idea

but then I see how they are doing it - they just put this woman in a tent, with no shower, a damn box to poop in and its not climate controlled. And they honestly expected her to stay in that for 21 days?

I know we have a military base in every state - empty out a damn barracks , put the quarantine people in there, feed them steak and keep them entertained, make sure they get paid and have job security and honor them for being heroes for fighting this disease.

I'd bitch about it too if they put me in a damn tent and told me to poop in a bucket.

Clearly they aren't interested in Americans going to West Africa and stopping the spread of this disease.

I think we should follow the CDC and WHO recommendations: the isolation should be at home for people who have tested negative and show no symptoms. They aren't contagious until they are very ill.

No need to spend that kind of money for that kind of overkill. And if we go that far, do we put the health care workers who monitored that person in a 21-day isolation, too?

Flu will kill 30,000 Americans this year. But we are freaking the hell out over Ebola, which hasn't killed anywhere close to that in the entire world.

I think it's because of movies like Contagion and Outbreak and maybe shows like The Walking Dead.

We've lost our minds. The only people at real risk in the US will be nurses and doctors, and that won't be an issue with the right protective gear.

the part that bothers me is the 4 health care workers that got ebola -did they screw up and come in contact with conatminated body fluids--you would say yes. how did that dude's family not get it. did all 4 of those workers know they contaminated themselves or did they get it despite maximum precautions?
were they lackadasical in taking precautions when in contact with body fluids
be interested to see if the finacee gets it

The family reportedly stayed the hell away from the body fluids after he became symptomatic. The nurses were using the thin, yellow disposable PPE gowns, regular gloves, and N95 masks - which just wasn't sufficient. The level C suit and hood is the new req.

the problem is they can't trust the people's judgement on staying at home voluntarily, not to mention putting family members at risk.

so while I understand the overreach, if you're going to Africa which should be encouraged, then when you come back, we're going to protect the population , but at the same time, we're going to treat you with the respect you deserve and use the ample resources we have to take care of you. Putting people in a damn catering tent with a poop bucket is just asanine

I'm not sure how they'll handle the people treating ebola but I do know the hospital opened a wing for people treating ebola patients and gave them rooms. it was a voluntary situation but that was a similar solution.

also, while its true, thousands of people die of the flu, its still a small number and there are precautions that are mainstream. If you get ebola, well - the odds of death are much worse than flu. I readily agree that we're overreacting but its no different than China killing off millions of chickens in an effort to stop SARS

Sure we can trust them to stay at home. But it would still be cheaper and better to put a public health officer in their driveway.

And, no, I am not worried about someone who tests negative and is asymptomatic being at home. They are not contagious.

The "small number" of flu deaths in the US is still more than all of the Ebola deaths in the entire world.

Thankfully, all the states now will allow self monitoring at home.

Have they designated the ribbon color for the ebola yet? What about the SARS? The flu??

Anyway, eCat, I'm not looking for an argument on Ebola. I respect your opinion even if I disagree with it.

The number of "small government, freedom loving conservatives" at some sites I read are pretty amusing. They are fearful, suburban bumpkins, calling for the government to declare martial law, forcibly detain anybody with merely tangential relationship to Ebola, block all flights from Africa. "hep us, government! We gonna die of the Ebola! Obama do something!"

freedom loving doesn't mean they support open immigration so closed borders - whether for crime, economy , national security or health concerns is definitely in the small government libertarian mindset. now granted, any requests for martial law or additional government regulation that is not temporary in nature is going to be contradictory to their supposed beliefs.

but I happen to believe that quarantine for 21 days isn't an unreasonable request. As I have said, I'd be pissed too regarding how they treated me if I were in that situation, but quarantine is the effective method for not spreading it.

We've had 2 non medical professionals come into the country with ebola(the Liberian and the NBC cameraman), and we've seen 4 medical professionals brought here because of contracting Ebola, and 2 medical professionals locally contract ebola from treating a man.

So while the numbers are insignificant, the people most knowledgeable about treating the disease aren't exactly instilling confidence in their ability to not spread it.

The quarantined nurses opinion of saying that Christie isn't a medical professional rings hollow when he can shoot back and say "your profession was not prepared for ebola treatment in regards to interacting with ebola from Africa" - what can she say to that?
