Never wake a sleeping baby. I was outside at 7 this morning as well. A few miles away from eCat. The temp was not a factor at the time.

You see grossly erratic driving and weaving between two lanes, it's a pretty safe bet it's booze. If they're driving straight, but 40 mph under the limit, it's pot.
In my neck we call them old people. They should be tested every year past 70. That's right AA, they're coming for you!

Goddamn, I'm glad none of you motherfuckers live near me. Stick your fucking nose in my business and I'll shove a goddamn pistol up your fucking ass and by the time I'm done you'll wish I pulled the trigger!

Leave your baby in a car unattended and I will make it my business. And I carry pistols, too - none of my carry pieces will go near your ass, though. Center line, tight groupings? Yes. Ass? No.

And don't get me started on drunk driving. Pulled too many dead children outta mangled pieces of metalin my earlier life. I'll call it to the troopers. Have for years.

Glad to see some of you are so confident in your snap judgments of situations that you are willing to impact other people's lives. If you know for a fact - i.e., witness someone throw six to 10 boilermakers down their gullet, stagger into the door frame on the way out, stumble to the curb, puke in the street and then get behind the wheel of a car and drive off -- you bet. Other people's poor choices should not negatively impact other lives. Making assumptions/judgments from vehicle to vehicle? Or about the parenting skills of a morning jogger on a cool morning?

I guess the glass panes in the house I live in must be thinner than the rest of you.

You are proceeding from a false assumption: we are not ticketing, arresting, fining, imprisoning, or sentencing anyone. When you call on someone who is driving all over the road and appears to be drunk you are simply reporting what appears - to you - to be a dangerous situation. Same with a baby locked in a car alone and left. After I call, the police check it out and determine if a crime is being committed.

With the drunk driver, if all they were only endangering were themselves, I'd never think about calling. That, unfortunately, isn't the case. Likewise, with the unattended baby left in the car while the adult goes jogging.

If you want to have your mind changed about drunk driving, see if your local fire-rescue will let you do ride-alongs. It's eye opening and usually infuriating.

When I was working as a paramedic, 3 outta every 4 of our MVAs on the weekend were alcohol-related. Anecdotally, it seemed the drunk usually lived and if someone died, it was an innocent.

Anyway, since then, I've always called. I don't plan to stop now.

I don't need my mind changed about drunk driving - I agree with you regarding the grievance of the offense.

I also believe it's a slippery slope when citizens begin to "police" each other.

I don't see it as me policing anyone. I'm not gonna cuff, arrest, or tase anyone. If I see a hazard or what I think is a situation that has a decent probability of causing harm to an innocent, I report it.

If what you're doing is only going to hurt you, more power to you. For example, there is a huge water tower not far from where I live. It's fenced in with signs that say "no trespassing" and "no climbing." People ignore the hell outta that and climb it. I've seen folks do it. Whatever. Not gonna call on that. Now if Zombie Michael Jackson climbs it with a baby in his backpack, yeah, I'm calling.

But I have one last question for you Deputy Dawg types: How do you know that baby was innocent? Motherfucker could have been running his mouth all night and deserved 45 minutes in the hot box...
