Seriously, though, a big problem with the Ebola shit is our protectionist policy stance on damn-near everything and the severe budget cutting Congress has done to the CDC. It has kept us from containing things in Africa. Now, everyone is more afraid of that than the fact that 75% of the world's wildlife has disappeared from the planet since 1970, Louisiana is losing about 50 meters, a day, of land to the Gulf or that California is drier than [insert sexist joke here].

The interesting thing about Duncan is, while I don't think racism is the answer, it is quite possible that classism might be. I truly believe that I would not have been 'streeted' after presenting to the ER as he was as a poor immigrant with no insurance. Two days of treatment with something like Ebola can make a world of difference. It is also curious that he did not get the same regime as the successful cases we had treated here in the US.

I could be wrong but he was reportedly very sick on his first ER visit....and in a previous life I, well...I've seen some things and been a part of things. Just my opinion. Your mileage may vary.

I haven't had a lot of that in my 30 or so years in hospitals. I guess it happens, though.
