Guns & dope never work in favor of the dude busted unless you play for UNC I guess. Up here in Ohio, you're getting 5. Especially how they found it packaged.

Oh I do. Trust me. I didn't say this case was in Ohio. I understand UNC is as corrupt as they come. Their Prez just jumped ship for a college with a 6K enrollment.

Did you catch this, Auggie? Apropos, as you are the heat who wants to bust UNC for smiling on a cloudy day...

"Remember that? Emmert had just finished turning Penn State’s football program into a smoking crater."

That article is a farce. First the guy says: "Emmert had just finished turning Penn State’s football program into a smoking crater. Never mind that the Jerry Sandusky sexual abuse scandal didn’t violate a specific NCAA bylaw. The president bypassed the usual enforcement process, imposed unprecedented sanctions and ushered us into the era of the Emmert Doctrine." Clearly this is not something to be lauded, even in a case of a crime as egregious as pedophilia. But then the writer goes on to say: "The president has already shown a devil-may-care willingness to disregard tradition and intervene at Penn State. There’s no comparison, of course, between a pedophile preying on young boys and the academic mess. But Emmert’s own words, his own made-up doctrine used to justify punishing Penn State for its handling of Sandusky’s off-field depravity necessitates involvement at North Carolina."

So this guy is basically admitting that the NCAA should use a made-up doctrine to run roughshod over any school that it feels like fucking with, for any reason. I'm sure you're all for that, only b/c it's UNC in the cross hairs. I bet you don't have any problems with illegal wire tapping and drone attacks on US citizens, either. I mean, why not? Just bypass the law when it suits you...

how is that a farce - what Penn St did was criminal, not academic, what UNC has done is academic and clearly within the realm of Emmerts power. What he is saying is that if Emmert is going to make up rules to go after Penn St, then he is obligated to go after UNC.

Mary Willingham is the Assistant Director of the Center for Student Success and Academic Counseling (CSSAC) and the Instructor of Education 387, Peer Tutoring- University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.

"Protecting our image has become the most important factor, sadly, this appears to have done more harm than good. As an institution of higher education where learning should be taking place each and every day, what is the lesson in all of this? Yesterday was the lowest day on campus ? ever. As yet another new bright eyed group of first year students meet up in the pit, we, the adults continue to cover up the truth about our mistakes. One dark cloud hangs in the otherwise blue sky, and we could make it go away ? if we were honest. Educational inequality is fed by a machine on our campus and campuses everywhere ? the college sport system ? until we own it and make the proper adjustments, the cheating will continue. Waiting for the NCAA is a joke, the sky over Indianapolis is full of dark clouds, thunder and lightening. They have failed miserably as a regulatory body. Bogus systems of eligibility along with secrets, silence and our own vulnerabilities win, our students lose. Protecting the brand at all costs ? worth it? Lesson learned? Not yet."

Even if nothing else comes of this, at least the entire country (those with a pulse) finally found out just how corrupt the college located at Chapel Hill NC really is. No longer can they lay claim as a first--class-I'm-better-than-you institution and their fans and alumni point fingers at others who violate NCAA rules.Cheating is cheating, no matter if it's athletic or academic... and one must wonder just how long unc has been doing this before the finally got caught.

Agreed. The vast majority of student athletes would never be admitted to their universities (even universities like UK or other SEC schools) had they not been athletes. You want to change the system and make sure everybody is doing the right thing, make all student athletes meet the same admission requirements as the rest of the student body. If you're going to treat standards for the athletes differently (grossly differently in most cases) at the admissions level, you shouldn't pretend to be outraged or even slightly surprised that the standards are different for them once they are on campus. To pretend otherwise is blatant hypocrisy...

Change "the college located at Chapel Hill NC" to "academics as it applies to athletes at any college" and I would agree. But really, it is corruption if everybody (those with a pulse, anyway) already knows about it? The only shock I find is how "surprised" and "outraged" (LMAO) some folks are pretending to be...

The outrage isn't about UNC doing it, its about getting away with it when caught.

if you want to talk about balancing out the system, lets start there
