Gentlemen, UNC is in trouble.

We have no chance against UVa with this shitass offensive line and putrid defensive line. The guys are playing too high and/or missing assignments/gaps on both sides and getting manhandled as a result. Bronco Mendenhall will have his team prepared, and they are going to run it up our gut, with their QB breaking some plays by being mobile, while pressuring Howell up the middle.

Absent a miracle occurring at practice this week, our line problems will not change, and we are going to lose. As it stands, this is a 6-6/7-5 team.

eCat, did you see my question to you and rat a few posts back? They are going batfuck crazy in Provo at the moment and I assume, Houston is also off-the-charts excited.

It will not matter. The same thing that happened to the old Big East/AAC could happen to the "new" Big 12. It would not surprise me if they are on the outside looking in when the next playoff / major bowl reshuffle happens.

Yes.

How has the local media been handling it?

And it was talked about for a bit but nothing major. UC moves to another conference. Chance of rain. Details at 11. Cincy is a pro sports town with 2 decent college programs. UC doesn't anywhere near rule the sports world here. 2 many good programs within 2 hours.

Maybe.

If they take Memphis, of the 4 they took instead, which one should they NOT have taken IYHO?

UCF, followed by BYU

BYU was their first selection. They were already independent in football and can join almost immediately. Moreover, BYU is the school that most resembles what the Big-XII used to be (geographically.) And the have the most successful history with football. So they were the first selection.

I agree with you on UCF. Problem is UCF has 71,000 students or whatever it is. Its a monster school. So if Memphis isn't in that territory then you don't have as much clout.

BYU has some cachet and history, so I suppose there is some TV leverage, but how much? They will be travel pain for all the other sports.

UCF was an obvious choice. School size, tv market, recruiting territory - they checked off all the boxes. The only question was whether to bring their natural archrival (USF) with them;
the Cinci and Houston markets were likely the factor there.

Memphis is another Tulsa. They have occasional good years, can pull an upset once in a while, but they aren't on fertile enough ground for a P5 conference to invest in them.

I think K-State will be the closest Big-XII opponent for BYU (974 miles by car, all I-70.) It has to be more than 1000 miles (at least) from Provo to every single Texas school. Central Florida might be closer to Houston than BYU is to K-State.

That said, BYU wants to be in a big-boys conference. So, well, you get what you pay for.

IMO, Houston was chosen mainly so that the out of state members of the conference, which by and large survive on the recruiting pipeline from Texas’ second and third tier recruits, can try and maintain a decent amount of interest and number of games played in the state.
