You somehow manage to ooze bitterness even through a veneer of knuckleheaded optimism.

When you are right, you are right.

I'll admit that because of reality slpas, I am a little bit jaded. That said I do have a very optomistic outlook for the world.

It will be interesting to see how the House votes on the Senate bill to forestall the fiscliff.

I think the R's are in a lose-lose situation. If they cave and approve the bill, they will be branded as traitors to the Dem's Big Government program. If they vote it down, they will be branded as obstructors and held responsible for the damage to the economy that results.

I agree with those who say the Dem's would love for us to go over the fiscliff. Two of their dreams would come true: everybody's taxes would rise, and the Pentagon would be gutted. It's a liberal dream come true.

The problem with gutting defense is, the valuable part of the military will be weakened while the worthless pentagon pork will still thrive.

Well, if we can't figure out a way to keep the good and get rid of the unnecessary, the waste and the outright fraud, I guess we deserve what we get. Of course, the same could be said for government in general...

Correct. If defense spending gets slashed, they will disband the Special Forces and mothball submarines, but keep buying aerial refueling tankers that even the Air Force doesn't want and keep open bases in key congressional districts that still stand guard over the pony express routes.

The country would have been better off going over the cliff than this deal. Military cuts were less than 5%, not apocalyptic as you state.

Republicans, politically, would be hurt on such a move, but it still would be better for the country in the long run. Smart liberals wanted the fiscal cliff to happen. They know that taxes need to be raised on the 98% to keep their big government hopes going, but they cant tell that to their poorer, less intelligent, gullible contingent. It would have been politically convenient if the Republicans would have done that for them.

"The country would have been better off going over the cliff than..."

That's a pretty sad statement no matter what you could think of to put after "than"...

That's no big deal. Liberal dogma says that women and minorities are ALWAYS the hardest hit.
