If he's cleared to play by numerous doctors but decides not to he shouldn't be paid. Seems like a softy to me.

I'm saying it seems like to me, from the Bulls perspective, I'd rather pay him $14 mil to not play for a year rather than have him come back too early (and here is where I'd err on the side of caution, even to the point of paranoia) and reinjure the knee and then I'm stuck paying him $100 mil over the next 5 years to be half as effective or, even worse, to be constantly in and out because the knee won't hold up. I'd rather be satisfied that I waited as long as possible rather than end up with Shaun Livingston...

That's not a fair analogy, though. Rose's knee injury, while bad, was a standard knee injury. Livingston's leg fell off.

The same thing that happened to Livingston happened to me once, I just popped it back in and kept playing. Where's my $14 million????

The Bulls have an insurance policy against him for his injury. If he plays one minute of basketball this year, they don't get the insurance money.
