Simon tried to hammer home the point with the toe tag scene.

In our world, Omar was a mythical gunslinger; a supreme badass who lived a more "code driven" life than any other character on the show. However, when it was all said and done he was just another body caught up in the ghetto. A body that could quickly be mistaken for a middle-aged white guy with angina and no newspaper would ring out his name, even though he was a major figure in our world.

Actually, all of S5 was about that. We spent 4 years in West Baltimore and Downtown and saw what was really important, but the newspapers never even got around to talking about it. It was a well-played season, even if I really did not love it like I did the others.

I get the toe tag scene. But I would have preferred to see Marlo, who was a supreme badass in his own right and the king of the entire city, in the toe tag scene (as opposed to the badass Robin Hood of the Hood in Omar). Instead, Marlo gets outta jail, gets $10 million more dollars from selling off the business, and in the end goes back to the street.

So, at that point, you realize Marlo will end up just like Omar. He's no Prop Joe. He's no String.

Actually, the more I think about it, Marlo may be more Avon "Just A Gangster, I Suppose" Barksdale (with not as much desire to stay out of the limelight, but definitely outpaces his level paranoia and order) than anyone...
and Avon is probably the only guy from Season One who's still alive and in the game (he and Bey).
Regardless of any nits I may have picked, it was a great series. I think I've loved everything HBO has done except True Blood and Carnival. Band of Brothers, The Pacific, Sopranos, Rome, Deadwood, The Wire, Entourage, CyE, Game of Thrones, etc, etc....just great viewing.

AlabamAlum wrote:Exactly, Nostron. I know that Omar getting shot that way is the way many get popped. But he wasn't the normal corner thug. Just like it's likely that he woulda died from that jump outta a 4th story window (or been knocked out and shot up) not to mention that the Barksdale people would have had someone snipe him from a second story window when he walked into the low rise courtyard long ago in "real life".

FYI, that 4th story jump and get away was some shit that actually happened. Only reason they allowed it in the show. Most of the best/craziest/funnies shit in the show (the copy machine lie detector) was taken from real stories Simon or the other producer (the former cop) had from their earlier days.

Not an HBO show... but if you get a chance, watch "Party Down". Great comedy.

SILENCE! Your TV taste is well noted and abysmal. No matter how many letters you write, they are not bringing back Marshal Law!

I won't mention specifically what happened for those of you that haven't seen it and want to but the ending of Boardwalk Empire made no sense.

The Commodores motivations were misplaced and I can't figure that out.
