eCat---Re your fridge--get your wife to deal with it--she can probably talk the guy stupid without losing her cool--once you lose it battle and war is lost!--If it wasn't labled "As is" and is defective it should be replaced or fixed to your satisfaction--with warranty. I had same problem with floor model fridge we bought to keep in the garage--cheap one for drinks , overflow etc-----I was SO over polite but adamant it be replaced--it was! My husband says the poor guy I was dealing with is still under psychiatric care!

I can just see eCat letting his wife decide on the fridge. He won't have any fingernails left.

ok, I got a new fridge

after I read the return policy to the manager for a second time, he interrupted me and said "I KNOW WHAT THE RECEIPT SAYS!"

and my response was - then why are we talking about it?

Nice. When they deliver it make sure to wipe everything down. I would suspect the handles and some other common areas will be teabagged quite a bit.

Does nobody else think its kinda bullshit to buy an open box/return for a discount and then return it for a new product regardless of what the store writes on the receipt as a policy that IMO clearly refers to purchasing new products?

if it clearly referred to purchasing new products still in the box, then you'd think a multi-million dollar corporation would put that in their policy on their receipt. You think they are trying to save on ink?

5 years ago I purchased a floor model Dishwasher from H.H. Gregg.

Installed it and first time I turned it on it flooded my kitchen. I called the repairman to come out, he looked at it for about 20 seconds and informed me that it had been dropped off a truck and the tub was cracked. He questioned how anyone would sell this unit.

H.H. Gregg, without me asking, replaced that dishwasher with a still in the box new one.

2 years ago I bought a display model Sony Blu Ray DVD player, brought it home, turned it on and it wouldn't read the discs. I brought it back, and again without asking, they gave me a new in the box model.

So while I understand your statement, I'm not sure you are even right on your assumption that clearly the policy is for new in the box items.

Lowes and H.H. Gregg are not used appliance stores, as well as scratch and dent appliances, or floor models while almost always marked down do come with the manufacturers warranty and would be fully covered under a manufacturers defect. Matter of fact that is the first selling point the salesmen goes to "you get to take advantage of the markdown while still having all the warranty!"

What I can say is had Lowes actually inspected the returned refrigerator before selling it to me, then we'd both be happy with our current situation. While I am conflicted about opting for a newer (I'm getting the display model they have, last one in stock) based on my own personal set of values, there is no ambiguity on my part about whether I am in the right or not. I am a customer of Lowes who is exercising the options afforded to me from their policy.

The secretary called in sick yesterday, she's back today but not feeling good. Just heard her talking to somebody on the phone, they must've asked her how she felt, b/c I heard her say "Not good, but I'm just tryin to be happy and keep working, if I fall out, I fall out"...

no, he just called them on the facts. electronics and appliances are so grossly overpriced these days, esp. considering most have just a 5-7 year lifespan.

I applaud ecat for understanding his rights and utilizing them.
