Yes, Marcus Smart decided to return to school for his sophomore season at Oklahoma State, eschewing guaranteed millions next years
and he was an idiot. What if he blows out a knee this summer playing pick-up ball? You can always go back to school. Getting guaranteed NBA/NFL/MLB money can disappear in an instant.

I'm a 34-year-old NBA center. I'm black. And I'm gay.
I didn't set out to be the first openly gay athlete playing in a major American team sport. But since I am, I'm happy to start the conversation. I wish I wasn't the kid in the classroom raising his hand and saying, "I'm different." If I had my way, someone else would have already done this. Nobody has, which is why I'm raising my hand.
My journey of self-discovery and self-acknowledgement began in my hometown of Los Angeles and has taken me through two state high school championships, the NCAA Final Four and the Elite Eight, and nine playoffs in 12 NBA seasons.
I've played for six pro teams and have appeared in two NBA Finals. Ever heard of a parlor game called Three Degrees of Jason Collins? If you're in the league, and I haven't been your teammate, I surely have been one of your teammates' teammates. Or one of your teammates' teammates' teammates.
Now I'm a free agent, literally and figuratively. I've reached that enviable state in life in which I can do pretty much what I want. And what I want is to continue to play basketball. I still love the game, and I still have something to offer. My coaches and teammates recognize that. At the same time, I want to be genuine and authentic and truthful.

For now...
Seriously, though, good for Jason. The decision is still made by someone at a point in their career where they may legitimately not play another game (regardless of orientation declaration). That probably is best, because a lot of people in the L know him and can retrospectively face their fear or ignorance.
I was a little shocked to see Broussard go all IB on the news, though.

dag, can you imagine going thru life answering "are you the gay one?"

Sounds like Broussard covered his bases by saying he is also against hetero premarital sex and "fornication", but I kinda doubt anything about non-married NBA players having hetero sex is going to make any headlines or get any serious, newsworthy criticism...

The number of players in divorce proceedings or baby scandals and Chris makes no peep. If he didn't feel the need to drag out his Christian Judgement Finger for those events, then I look at him dubiously for doing so now.

Well, in fairness, I doubt anybody ever asked him. That's why I said those "issues" are hardly newsworthy anymore. And not even hardly. Nobody gives a damn whatsoever. Eventually, it'll be that way about homosexuality, too. But I did think Broussard did a good job of making the point that even if he personally wasn't OK was homosexuality, the idea of tolerance is being able to accept it when other people don't meet your standards. I suspect he probably would've kept his views to himself if he hadn't been asked about it directly. Good example of Don Corleone's knowing how to keep business and personal separate. And also, even though I don't agree with Broussard's (nor many other christians) opinion on this and probably most other matters, he has a perfect right to express them, just like I have a right to think he's a backwards ass fucktard. But I hear he's an excellent sports analyst...

I did not hear how he was questioned that lead to his response, that is true. So, what was the actual question on ATH that started this?

I don't know, maybe I shouldn't have assumed, but I assumed the whole discussion was specifically about Collins's announcement and therefor they were looking for direct responses to it and to the larger issue in general...

OK, just so I understand...
Derrick Rose doesn't talk to the NCAA, and Memphis is guilty because of the silence.
Lance Thomas doesn't talk to the NCAA, and Duke is innocent because of the silence.
Fuck you, NCAA. Fuck you fucking fucks. And fuck you, Duke.

Things have changed since Rose. A new precedent was set a couple of years ago.

I was impressed by that James Young kid in the game I attended. I actually thought he was from Cali, not Michigan.
Again, if there is any possibility of a poison hitting UK's campus next Fall it is those Harrison boys. I was not a fan.

I could live without the Robert Morris game. I'm not sure of the point - but that schedule doesn't appear to be a light at last years.

On pretty days like we've had this week, I've parked the sport bike and I've started riding my scooter. I like being at an age where I don't have to focus on making my penis look more attractive. Its much more comfortable.
