If I - or anyone here - had poisoned trees, that reference would be okay to bring up multiple times. But, considering we had nothing to do with it, it would be like me chiding you about armed robbery like the 4 Auburn players were popped with.

Further, the moron charge is only leveled when you trot out another moronic post.

Professor Tiger wrote:Bama fan tree poisoning references: maybe ten.

"Prof, you are a ______ moron": at least a hundred.

Long way to go.
Well, just to be factual, most papers in the country ran that tree poisoning story, and the following up catching the guy who did, plus many ran the story of the attempt to save the tree, the apology by the perpetrator, his sentencing. Also, it was brought up again by some when Auburn played Alabama again this year.

Now, if you just talking about this thread, that's another matter.

Sentencing? I thought his trial wasn't until March.

The new defense, "hey, no big deal. At least I didn't molest any kids."

Nick Saban: Showing No Fear

Jeno James, our best offensive lineman at the time, comes in and collapses after practice, uh, vomiting all kinds of stuff that would make a billygoat puke, eyes rolled in the back of his head. Myself, about four other lineman are trying to carry him from the locker room, to the training room.

Obviously it's a moment of panic, everyone, you know, we don't know if this guy's, you know, gonna die, I mean, the whole deal. But he's so big and sweaty and heavy that we actually have to set him down in the hallway between the locker room and the training room.

Nick Saban literally just starts walking in, steps over Jeno James convulsing, doesn't say a word, doesn't try to help, goes upstairs, I don't know what he does. But then obviously they get Jeno 'trauma-offed' to the hospital.

Saban calls a team meeting about 10:30 that night, comes down and says, 'You know, the captain of the ship can never show fear or indecision, we've always gotta have an answer, and so I had to go upstairs, that's why I walked over Geno like that, I had to collect my thoughts and decide what's best for our team.'

And I'm thinking to myself, I think along with Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas and Yeremiah Bell and all these other guys going, 'Did he, does he really believe what he's just saying?' He showed no human emotion for one of his best players.

Something that supposedly happened 6 years ago now being told by an Auburn alum who was cut by Saban in the pros to a blog called "Shutdown Corner"?

How do you spell apocryphal again?

I completely believe it 100% as told. It's in character with Nick. He's a fearless captain

And a captain is to be feared and respected.

I wouldn't give a shit if they respected me.

Ft. Collins is a nice town. My cousin just retired as the fire chief there. I'll put in a good word for McElwain.

That's a pretty hefty salary for an unproven coach at a mid-level school.

I'm just curious who will be hired at Bama after the championship win this year. Will be pretty big shoes to fill.

I don't sense great consternation among Bama people that McElwain left. His offenses looked solid and methodical, but never spectacular. Now if Smart winds up leaving (and I have no reason to believe he will anytime soon), I imagine there would be a lot of concern. His defenses were scary. He would have been/might still become a great candidate to replace Richt.

I don't know how much they contribute to the recruiting juggernaut, or if that's all Saban. The ability to recruit is a big factor for Roof's replacement.

People aren't worried about any coordinator leaving with Saban anymore. I remember when Steele left and went to Clemson, people were worried. Ditto when Applewhile left. Nothing changed -either time- schematically. That's Saban's defense and Saban's offense. Whomever comes will run what Saban wants. So, you won't find a huge amount of worry.

EFZ re Saban's offense and Saban's defense. Complaints that it lacks flash will fall on deaf ears.

I remember during the 70's when people were bitching about the way Bama was winning with Coach Bryant and Mal. Then people were bitching about the same thing with Gene. Now people I hear complaints that it's not a 50 point offense. You realize what all of those complaints have in common don't you? Winning.

And after living through the DuBose/fRan/Shula catastrophy, I don't complain about wins.
