at the same time Google was just fined by the government for collecting wireless information including network passwords of residents when it did its street level mapping.

It appears just like Wal-Mart "We only buy Made in the USA" when possible slogan, Google's "Don't Be Evil" applies only until you are a corporate giant.

The Arab spring has shown the world the power of social media. Its not surprising that countries are now considering the "stop" button on the internet. Even the United States has introduced the idea in the interest of stopping a cyber attack (yea, right)

Yep, that cyber attack narrative is simply a smoke screen, that you are 100% correct about.

What I will say, China has an extremely restrictive internet policy, but most of the young Chinese bypass that firewall. I think I posted on here almost a year ago about an article I read about Chinese youth and censorship where one kid said (paraphrasing): "yeah, we have censorship, but we know we are censored, so we are constantly mindful about what we are being told is the 'truth.' Westerners don't think they have censorship and authoritarian manipulation of information, so they accept all of what is told them. Who is worse off?"

I play a little game at work.

I don't want to get busted surfing for porn so I type generic words in google search for images that I think will return pictures of porn as a result.

Today's search was soccer mom. With the safe search turned off, it returns a surprising high number of porn pics.

So your idea of a safe search at work is to type in "soccer mom?"

He can blame it on wanting to type "soccer meeting" or "soccer moves" and the autofill got him...

"Earth will become too hot for liquid water in roughly 1 billion years."

I bet the few million years leading up to that point won't be too pleasant either...

If you're considering ceasing to exist (certainly ceasing to exist in our current form) as doomed, then yes, i agree that we are doomed. But who cares?

I once sold some t-shirts that said "Hush Rush" with a picture of Rush in a circle and a red line thru him...

Wow, please tell us more.
Sure, I've been called a xenophobe, but the truth is, I'm not. I honestly just feel that America is the best country and the other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism.

"Wow, please tell us more."

I was going to make a similar shirt that said "Hush BRM" but I realized there wasn't enough red in the spectrum of visible light to draw a line thru you...

Today's Google Doodle is in honor of the dude who perfected the zipper. I saw his Google Image and was floored by how much dude looked like Jesse Jackson. It is just as eerie as the picture from the 1800s of the cat who looked just like Nicholas Cage.

Profit goes from 71% to 50% while you employ thousands of your own. Why does Apple hate America?

if they ran that as a campaign they'd most definitely increase their market share in the US

by enough to make up the difference?

Apple does not answer to Americans. It answers to shareholders and Street analysts. Why even see if you can make up the difference when all you have is downside risk?

They know they crush profits every quarter. They won't change their business model so people in South Carolina or Tennessee can have increased job opportunities.

That's the cold hard truth of Capitalism. It has no patriotism.

Nor should they, it's up to Americans to find things we do with a higher value than Chinese can. World trade is never going away no matter how many times 29 protesters show up at WTO meetings.
