to be honest, its a shitty situation for Goodwin, who clearly needs another year to develop his game. Goodwin is the kind of guy that could turn into being a serious baller like Olashutthefuckup at Indiana if he is given a chance to develop.
The practice time he gets next season will be invaluable however the court time would probably hurt his draft choices - so two things are working against him - a weak draft this year and a never before assembled team of talent for next year.
But its all in context - right now the honest assessment of Goodwin is to show some flash in the workouts, hope to get a guaranteed contract and pray they have the patience to develop him in the leagues.

I think I read where UNC has a fat tub of goo as a recruit coming in around 300 pounds
Rick Pitino recruited Nazr Mohammed. a 300 pounder back in his days - basically created a JV team just to develop him and dedicated Winston Bennet to be his mentor.
Mohammed lost the weight, went on to be a major reason we won the national championship in '98 and has since gone on to be UK longest tenured player in the NBA, still playing now and has a multi million dollar contract.

"Goodwin is the kind of guy that could turn into being a serious baller like Olashutthefuckup at Indiana if he is given a chance to develop."
UK isn't where you go to develop, you're either NBA calibre as a freshmen and then leave, or you plan to ride the pine after that...
"so two things are working against him - a weak draft this year and a never before assembled team of talent for next year."
Certainly the last part isn't true of UNC, where Bullock and McAdoo would be getting major minutes next year if they return. But they've both got to be thinking their chances for getting drafted higher is better this year than it will be next year, so I won't be surprised if they both jump. Maybe Hairston, too...
"I think I read where UNC has a fat tub of goo as a recruit coming in around 300 pounds"
The dorks at IC think he's going to be the next Shun May, but according to workout reports from the McD's AA game, he hasn't been effective against elite high school competition. We'll see...

those bigs guys do have a natural advantage in the paint. Oliver Miller and Glen Davis just used their ass to move people out of the way.

This was the lead-in sentence for an article on IC about the fatty that we're currently talking about:
"The McDonald’s All-American practices are physical and grueling. Kennedy Meeks found that out quickly."

if he is playing at the McD's game, he has to have some potential - although the first I heard of him was people saying the only reason he was at the McD's game is because he is a UNC commit

We've got a close to 7 foot behemoth on the team now, Joel James, who has only been playing hoops for a few years. He was over 300 lbs. in high school, but then dedicated himself to getting fit and now he's a solid 260 lbs., but he isn't going to contribute much on the court until his junior or senior year, if then. Why can't we get that kind of dedication to getting in shape from the guy (Meeks) who by all accounts has a very nice game but is too fat to play for more than 3 or 4 minutes at a time??

From IC's McD's practice report:
"Meeks’ third day looked a lot like his other days. He wasn’t going to have a great week here, but today he did at least pass and rebound more effectively. He knows, along with everyone else, that he must get serious about his physique and conditioning, so there’s no need to belabor the point.
From a national perspective, I thought Julius Randle and Aaron Gordon stood out for their determined play. Randle is a tough player to evaluate because his body and athleticism suggest one thing (power scorer), and his skill set and mentality suggest another (point forward).
Jabari Parker didn’t fare as well today, either, so frankly none of the top three — Wiggins, Randle or Parker — ended up having a scintillating week. For UNC, I think Hicks will maintain his place in the national top 20 (would be higher in most classes) and Meeks somewhere in the lower top 50. "
Lower top 50. Damn. OTOH, I think UK fans are going to love Randle. I think he may end up having a better freshman campaign than Wiggins. Could be the next Elton Brand, who was one of my top 3 most hated Dook players based on how good they were rather than how annoying they were (other 2 being Jason Williams and Luol Deng)...

And according to the McDonald's on South Blvd, Meeks can't hold a candle to Shun May...

I heard the only reason he was at the McD's game is because he heard they were giving away quarter pounders.
Also, didn't someone post a picture of Meeks in here a few months ago...a picture of him and his mother...saying that he was going to sign with UNC?
