Single mom's were not allowed in public housing until LBJ's Great Society. They weren't allowed there because people (even women) were smart enough to realize that when you pay for/subsidize something, you get more of it. When LBJ heard that as an argument against his "great society" his response was, "...so what? fuck you we're a rich country and can afford bullets and butter, we can afford to support those few single moms."

This is what happens when government pays for something. Now women don't get married anymore, nor do they put their illegitimate children up for adoption.
