College football is more important to me. In other words, if Alabama is playing LSU in football and basketball at the exact same time and I had tickets to both, I would go to the football game and give the basketball tickets to a friend. That never happens, though.


If both are on TV, I set up a second TV.

And I asked that question originally, because -unlike the Duke/State scenario - I fear there's a real chance for a UofL-IU final. In fact, Kansas and Louisville may be the only teams that can derail Indiana. Shit, the Hoosiers might be the most prohibitive favorite to hit the NCAA tourney since Kent Benson and Quinn Buckner ruled the court in '76

I don't know if I can quantify my relative love for each sport in a percentage.

I like mashed potatoes and I like baked potatoes, but I like baked potatoes more - although I don't know if I like baked potatoes 64.5% and mashed potatoes 35.5% (for example). Same with basketball-football.

I won't be shocked if IU doesn't make the FF. Not really a knock on them in particular, b/c I can say that about any team in the tourny this year. Wouldn't be even mildly shocked if any of the top 2 seed lose in the Sweet 16 or earlier. Look at the top 10. All but Gonzaga and Dook have at least 5 losses and two of them have 7. And the top 25 is littered with 8, 9 and even 10 loss teams. These teams know how to lose and nobody is going to be shocked when that is exactly what happens to them, early and often...

I like baked potatoes 68% and mashed potatoes 32%.

I'd put my percentages for Carolina basketball/football at around 75/25. Might be 80/20. But that's mainly b/c going to a football game is just such a fun event, and all day affair. In terms of college football vs. hoops in general (not Carolina), I'd say it's about 50/50. I can easily sit down and enjoy a good college football game that I have only passing interest in either of the teams, esp. during bowl season. I don't really watch a whole lot of college hoops unless Carolina is playing, outside the tourny, anyway. But the tourny makes up for alot of regular season and minor bowl football games...

Kids here are brought up on football. On Tobacco Road it's basketball.

I would say more the latter than the former. For instance, NCState fans are brought up in the same mise en scene vis a vis college hoops as Carolina fans are, but after decades of being whipped down by Carolina and Dook, I'm sure they are for the most part bigger football fans than basketball fans, the relative paltriness of their football program notwithstanding...
