if they put us in, we'd be in Indiana's bracket.
I'd take the NIT and not give them the satisfaction

dag. Villanova is the last team I'd want to play in the first round as a mid seed.

hedge I knew he transferred ( i am sure you did not) just assumed he had to sit out a year like every other kid, but unlike most people I admit when I am wrong

I admit when I'm wrong. At first I thought you were a good, knowledgeable college hoops fan, but I readily admit that I was wrong. Massively wrong...

I don't care about the brackets. We can beat anybody. I'd love to beat Kansas's ass in the second round, they are not very good. Plus it will give Wiggins some incentive to come to Carolina next year. I like it...

Not knowledge funny
how was I supposed to know Larkin got Sphyullius and had to transfer before his freshman year started Depaul just assumed he went the year before
seed does not matter bu Kansas in KC is going to be tough and Paige as struggled all year against pressure and Nova pressures the ball.

Tar Heel Seed Comparison

Ultimately, every team has to play good opponents to advance in the NCAA Tournament. But seeding is important in determining exactly when and where you have to play those teams. With that in mind, here's a look at the credentials at some of the teams handed certain seeds on Sunday night's selection show. This table (using data from WarrenNolan.com) compares the credentials of Carolina, an 8 seed, with the four 7 seeds. According to the official NCAA seed list, the committee ranked all four of the below teams ahead of Carolina:
Team D1 record Seed RPI SOS vs top 100 Last 10
Carolina 23-10 8 17 8 9-9 8-2
SDSU 20-10 7 30 15 8-10 5-5
NDame 25-9 7 35 49 9-9 6-4
Illinois 21-12 7 40 9 7-10 6-4
Creighton 27-7 7 25 82 10-5 7-3
When asked about the bracketing process on Sunday night's selection show, NCAA selection committee chairman Mike Bobinski said, "A lot of mechanical things happen," when the committee has to slide teams one line higher or lower. He went on to say, "We don't look at matchups."
Looking at the above table, and looking at the fact that the NCAA coincidentally managed to potentially set up a Carolina-Kansas matchup in Kansas City, it's hard not to have a very clear understanding of exactly what some of those "mechanical things" might be--starting with the mechanics of cashing checks from the tournament's $10.8 billion contract with Turner and CBS, a contract that requires high ratings in order to be successful.
It's quite a coincidence that Carolina and Kansas have been in the same region in three of the nine Tar Heel NCAA Tournaments (in which UNC has participated) during the Roy Williams era. Prior to that, the two programs hadn't been in the same region since 1985, which means 18 tournaments passed without the teams being paired, and suddenly they show up in the same region three times in nine years. There must have been a lot of "mechanical things" that caused that phenomenon.

Easier to see the table here. Suffice to say, UNC had a higher RPI, higher SOS and better record over the last 10 games than any of the 4 teams that got a 7 seed, and yet we were stuck with an 8 seed in KU's bracket. Whatever...

Well, our season is all but over. Kansas not only has the athletes to guard our 4-out-1-in offense, but Withey will eat us up in the paint. That is, if we get by Villanova.
Crotch -- Got any voodoo dust you could sprinkle on WKU for an old Tar Heel pal? Man oh man, the committee sure loves to see Roy suffer with his ex.

UK Fans -- We argue all the time about all time supremacy, etc., but trading off NIT bids after National Titles isn't exactly what either program should be about. I sure wish we'd found a way to balance out the past few seasons to prevent k*rzythead from winning his 4th, and now, Pitino likely claiming his 2nd crown.

Kentucky travels to Robert Morris for round 1 of the NIT (Rupp is already booked).

You guys shouldn't have any problem with Western. They're just and average Joe team.... nothing like their teams of old. Can easily see the tarheels by 20. No need for dusting.

HAHAHA...Good one, Crotch. We may not even get to WKU after they blowout KU.

Heh.... can't see that happening. Game will be over at halftime NC and KU will be a close game. The heels are jelling at the right time. Great outside shooting could give Kansas fits.

Robert Morris!! Kentucky had better show up. Really can't see UK being in the Final Four in NY. Players could care less.

I was mad as a hornet when we accepted that NIT bid in 2010, but for whatever reason, our players really wanted to win that meaningless tournament. And they almost did. All I wanted was for Nancy Drew to get the Hell out of Chapel Hill. When he hit that game winning layup at Mississippi State, that was the only time in my life that I had a sinking feeling after a Tar Heel victory. I knew his ass wasn't leaving after that.
