"No Ma'am. We're musicians."
Also, while the Rev. Cleotis James church scene captures the black church experience, this scene summarizes the Catholic church experience:

During their reign of terror, which is now finally coming to an end, they've slaughtered more people than Stalin Mao and Pot put together. Thankfully, all thinking people are rejecting them and their outdated form of theism. Instead, people with half a brain are embracing the enlightened, tolerant, and peaceful path of atheism, like Stalin, Mao and Pot did.
Beat ya to it.

The indoctrination of violence does indeed begin early in some sects. They didn't invent it, of course, b/c it comes quite naturally. Some folks have a particular genius for organization, though...

Interestingly enough, I participated in a march on Thursday (which was International Human Rights Day). Many on the planning committee didn't want a minister on the program at all and most decidedly did NOT want me to pray. After much wrangling, I did offer a short prayer, which resonated well with almost all of the actual poor, oppressed people who marched. Most of the organizers, however, were extremely uncomfortable.

The black church and Islam are the only forms of religion the left can tolerate.

The black church is iffy . . . most lefties of faith/fellow travelers are Episcopalians, UCC, Evangelical Lutherans or Progressive Judaism.

The fellow travelers you mention are tolerated because they don't believe in anything. The black church is very different from them in that the black church holds strongly to some very conservative beliefs. Theologically, every black Christian I know is more akin to Jerry Falwell than Bishop Spong. I always found that interesting.

Well, there is no (longer) a unified blacck church theology. Most will profess to a conservative view because it requires no work. No need to correct bad training, faulty translations or poor hermeneutics.
Born Gay? Go to Hell.
Husband beats your ass, spends his money on heroin and molests your daughter? Stay with him forever or go to Hell.
Pregnant with your 7th child, your husband is in prison and the fetus has a 99.95% chance of being a blind, retarded paraplegic? Have that baby or go to Hell.
No need to think or do a deep contextual study of the Bible.

Begone, Ghost, you godless Episcopalian!
No need to think or do a deep contextual study of the Bible.
Yes, God bless the vast majority of black Christians that haven't run their Bible through German higher criticism, postmodern deconstruction, and other fancy academic phrases that study the Bible with the presupposition that nothing in it is actually true. They aren't Episcopalians yet.

"that study the Bible with the presupposition that nothing in it is actually true."
A sound method of analysis in this case...

hedge, you have virtually the same views about the Bible and God and Jesus as the clergy/seminaries of the Episcopalians, United Methodists, United Church of Christ, and Evangelical Lutherans.
