My neighbor has spent his entire day raking leaves & piling them up & down his driveway. Now he's driving up & own his driveway on his mower running over them. WTF? Why not just do that while they are still in the yard? He must have a huge honey do list inside that he's trying to avoid.

It all depends. The same way weddings can be ritualistic mumbo jumbo or simple, being a godparent can be in a church service or just an agreement with the parents to play a vital and active role in the child's life.

For me it just meant I have to pay more for Christmas presents.

It is. Among Protestants, it's a ceremony in church with a Pastor. Outside of church, it can be however you want it to be. In Rat's friends' case, it's via phone.
