Only thing that makes sense.

If Manning was 100% then he easily has 4-7 years left barring injury. They would keep him and trade the pick for lots of players to help.

With the health issue they cant keep him and draft luck and if I was Manning I wouldn't budge on the bonus payment date.

Force their hand be done with it.

I bet you would they would make a huge improvement and be in playoff contention.

I mean really. The only real difference between this year and last year with the colts was manning being gone.

8 game difference without Manning, yet you say it would have been that way if he was healthy and had played?

Riiiiight.
Pass that joint over here.

Here's what I don't get. Everyone is saying Luck is the next Manning. Is that really a good thing? Great regular season player but below average when it counts? Wouldn't you rather he be compared to Brady? A QB who guides and develops his team during the regular season so he has full command when it counts? Giving up personal regular season stats for the greater good of the team for the games that actually count? Im talking playoffs Hack. Keep up.

I would think if luck can get the colts to 10 straight playoffs, get to 2 superbowls and win one that is a pretty successful career

I think he gets one more year maybe 2--I think any more is very speculative

not worth paying 24 million for though to take that chance as a colt

It is very simple for the Colts and this IS how it will play out.

On or around March 1st, Manning will have to show that he can throw the ball more than 20 yards. If he can't, then he is cut and gone for good. If he can then the next step will be how far he can throw it AND how many reps he does before he starts shwoing ill effect. If the next day he is having some strength issues, etc... then he is cut. . Irsay doesn't owe him another damn dime. He got paid 26 mil this year and didn't play a single down. I am sure they will try to come up with a dollar figure that makes sense so he doesn't have to go to another team to be a rental QB and possibly hurt his image.

If he can't throw the ball more than 20 yards by March 1st, it would seem to reason it won't be any better by August 1.

Now with all that said, if he is 100% and can show off his skills on March 1 with no issues, then as the Colts, I go all in for the next two years to try to win another SB. Trade the 1st pick for a stock pile, take your future QB later on in the draft, and fill the needs you will have with the rest of the picks. That way when the future QB takes over, the pantry should be stocked with solid players they were able to get over the next couple of drafts.

Both Manning and Leaf were both can't miss prospects. It is a crap shoot either way.

Good points. And it's true that there is a 'can-miss' element to pinning the organization's future on Luck...which you almost never hear about.

What else can they say? They dug this hole a long time ago when they said Leaf > Manning. And all they know how to do is keep digging.

"Everyone is saying Luck is the next Manning."

Not only is "everyone" NOT saying this. I literally have not heard ANYONE say it.

Other than that, you made a great point.

which is why he typically fails in postseason play.

I posted the postseason stats, but Rickart insists on perpetuating a lie. Tom Brady has accounted for almost 5 football fields LESS offensive production in the postseason than Peyton Manning -- despite having played in more games and for superior coaching and with a better team surrounding him.

I posted the facts about all of those supposed crucial INTs that Peyton has NOT thrown, too.

But Rickart just keeps babbling on.

And I'm still waiting to hear why Brady hasn't won a SB in the last 8 seasons, despite playing the best football of his career. Still waiting.
