Here's my simplistic way of looking at the situation:

The BCSCG is supposed to match the two best teams in the country.

Alabama and LSU are, without a doubt, the two best teams in the country.

That is all.

PS: When others refer to historical precedents, I think it would be fun (in a shaudenfreud sort of way) if LSU went undefeated all the way through the SECCG, and the BCS people told them: "We know you went 13-0 in the toughest conference in the country, and defeated 5 ranked teams in the process. But that's not enough. Another team that also went undefeated in a much weaker conference, and only defeated 3 ranked teams in the process, but they will play in the BCSCG instead of you. Why? Because we like them better than you. Deal with it. FU.

Oh - wait a minute - here's a reason we just thought of that, in our minds, justifies our screwing you: you played Western Kentucky! They suck! That completely negates the fact that you you went undefeated in the toughest conference in the country and beat 5 ranked teams in the process.

Like we said, deal with it, and FU.

I'd say 2004 but Auburn's OOC schedule that season was abysmal, too. So, that doesn't help the "Why did AU get left out?" argument...

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama - With one game to go, possibly in the BCS Championship Game against LSU's stiff defense, Alabama running back Trent Richardson is within reach of some milestones.

He needs 75 yards to break the school single-season rushing record of 1,658 yards, set by Mark Ingram during his Heisman Trophy season in 2009.

Richardson needs 17 yards to reach 1,600, which would put him in the top 10 in SEC history. He would surpass the 1,599 yards gained in 1989 by Florida's Emmitt Smith, who went to the same high school as Richardson (Escambia) in Pensacola, Fla.

Richardson needs two touchdowns to break the SEC single-season record of 24 touchdowns that Alabama's Shaun Alexander set in 1999.

Through 12 games, Richardson has faced five of the nation's top 50 rushing defenses and has run 263 times for 1,583 yards (6.0 avg.). He ranks sixth in the nation in rushing with an average of 131.9 yards per game. Oregon's LaMichal James leads (142.7).

Richardson has scored 23 touchdowns (20 rushing) and ranks sixth in the nation in scoring (11.5 ppg). Wisconsin's Montee Ball has scored 34 touchdowns and leads the nation with 17.0 ppg.

Richardson, a finalist for the Maxwell Award and the Doak Walker Award, is ranked eighth in the nation in all-purpose yards (164.67 per game). New Mexico State's Taveon Rogers leads (201.55). Of his 2,217 yards, 1,251 have come on kickoff returns.

1251 yards on KO returns? That's over 100 per game. Dude is either awsome or they ain't got a defense so he gets lots of chances........

Hasn't happened yet. If Okie State beats OU by a ton, they can get the nod.

I've always been somewhat of the opinion you should win your conference to go to "the game". Didn't stop 'em with Nebraska, or Oklahoma, though so if we get the nod....Thanks for the chance.

If Okie Light beats Oklahoma and gets the nod I can't argue with it. I guess we'll have to pull for OU.

Okie Lt has a ton of work to do though...our margin on them is .0333 more than our margin over Arkansas last week. Hell, .0333 is a pretty good margin by itself but we're better than .08 ahead of OSU.

I don't understand how this is comparable. Everyone was fighting for a chance to play Ohio State in the BCS championship game that year: Georgia was 5th in the BCS heading into the bowls. #2 was SEC Champ LSU.

Are you suggesting that #5 Georgia was done wrong because they weren't chosen over #2 LSU fresh off of drubbing Tennessee in the SECCG?
I wouldn't call it a drubbing. We were leading in the 4th qtr ya know

We win if efing Ainge doesn't throw that pick 6.

Assuming LSU beats UGA

If Bama beats LSU by 10 or less I think LSU would still be the more deserving champ.

Look at it this way - there are 5 SEC teams worth a shit - Bama, LSU, Ark, UGA and South Car

Bama hasn't played UGA or SC - they throttled Ark and lost AT HOME to LSU.

Ped State is a typical overrated Big 10 team - they play same style as Bama just not near as well - they could play 10 times and not win.

So what has Bama done besides the eyeball test to make everyone so sure they deserve another shot?

Why should Bama get to skip the SECCG and only have to split w/ LSU, while LSU would be required to play in the SECCG and sweep Bama?

LSU has by far the tougher schedule.

Having said all that I do share in the opinion that the rest of the one loss teams all suck donkeyballs, but If OSU beats OU I guess I'd like to see them get the shot.
