let me give you lawyers a hypothetical

Man x is a collector - coins, stamps, fossils, tools, etc.

Man x has a will written up where he leaves his collection to his children.

Man x takes a few of the items from his collection - which is not static , its always growing - and gives those items to child Y physically removing it from the larger collection and carrying it several hundred miles to child y

3 years later Man X dies, at the reading of the will , the other siblings stand up and say child Y needs to give the collection back and everything will be divided equally among all the children.

Does Child Y tell the others to fuck themselves or does child Y give the collection back?

right now Child Y is yelling like a banshee at the other siblings telling them they are petty selfish bitches.

Well, it varies on the state, and I'm not wills, trusts and estates experts. However, if it was part of a group of "collectibles" to be given to the class and the will doesn't make provisions for this type of situation in any way--and I'm guessing that it doesn't--then Y tells them to go pound sand.

Y tells them to go fuck themselves and Merry Christmas.

As DS said, it depends on the state and the specific language of the will. It could be considered still part of the will, just Man X having already recieved his portion. Or it could be considered entirely separate such that the rest is split evenly.

Man X should make sure Spritle and Chimp Chimp aren't hiding in the trunk of the Powerful Mach 5 for once.
