Fun fact: a ridiculously hot chick that dated one of my college roommates was the offspring of someone in the Lawrence Welk TV band. She said he was still getting residual checks of like $5/month at the time.

Over the past couple of weeks, Virginia Tech's slow-burning dumpster fire of roster attrition has picked up speed. Six scholarship players quit the team last week, including one who was supposed to be competing for the starting field corner position(since Antone Exum is out indefinitely due to his torn ACL). Among the other five were two offensive linemen, a position at which VT hasn't had much depth in about a decade. Mark Shuman, who was competing for a starting spot at guard, has a torn meniscus and is out for a month and a half. Augie Conte, a redshirt freshman who was likely a top backup at tackle, has sprained his ankle and is out for the moment. David Wang, in contention for the starting spot at center, has sprained an ankle(again). Last year's starting tailback, J.C. Coleman, somehow managed to sprain both his ankles in the same practice, and is likely out for a good while. One of his backups, Tony Gregory, suffered his fourth ACL tear at VT, and his football career is over. The only whip linebacker with any experience, Ronny Van Dyke, dislocated his shoulder and is out for the season. His backups are walk-ons, or possibly a scholarship player who has never played the position. The most experienced WR, D.J. Coles, missed all of last year with a knee injury, and is apparently still hurting-- he still can't finish a practice without limping.

All this means(assuming Coleman doesn't play) that against Alabama, VT's top three running backs, along with four of their top five offensive tackles and most of the receiving corps, will be playing in their very first college games. Both the starting and backup left tackles are true freshman, and the backup just started playing left tackle at VT last Wednesday.

Ouch.

Bama will probably lose a corner to a DUI.

In this case, "a few more" equals about 85, give or take a couple.

You're assuming VT's TE/QB will have sufficient time in the pocket to get the ball anywhere near a wideout. Probably not gonna happen.
