Scientists stuck in the ice is the gift that just keeps on giving.....

Reporting on the environmental movement has always required a certain sense of humor. And now we have an expedition launched in part to study the melting of Antarctic ice sheets that has been trapped since Christmas in ice so thick that rescue attempts have failed to reach the frozen vessel.

In an earlier age, explorers who so badly underestimated the expanse of polar ice would surely have perished. But the 74 passengers and crew of the Akademik Shokalskiy are thriving. An expedition spokesman reports that, "Surprisingly, all the passengers seem to be considering it the adventure of a lifetime."

And why not? The rich abundance of our carbon-based economy has not only provided the means to sustain their lives, but even to post a cheerful sing-along on Youtube. And the helicopters and ships participating in the next rescue attempt aren't powered by renewable-energy credits.

Still, some readers may be concerned about the carbon footprints these eco-tourists will leave behind. Not to worry. These hardy explorers have pledged to plant trees on another continent to offset the carbon they burn now.

In this season of new beginnings we have here a chance to appreciate the amazing technologies created by free people. For they allow us to laugh at the folly of our fellow humans, rather than having to mourn their passing.

Yeah, modern technology only saves lives, it hasn't caused the death of anyone!

Even if they come up with hundreds of "feel good" anecdotal stories it won't overshadow the millions who've gotten screwed.

For those who suspected Murdock got religion and slowed the flow of gold ads...uh, no. And now Goldline is back at it on Fox News, after paying the millions in penalties for the deceptive ads aimed at....well, typical Fox News viewers.

Now don't go dissin' Fred Thompson. His epic performance in "Hunt for Red October" outweighs all criticism.

"What's his plan? A Russian don't take a dump, son, without a plan" and "this will get out of control and we'll be lucky to live through it" is the stuff of legend.

Plus..
In 1977 Thompson represented Marie Ragghianti, a former Tennessee Parole Board chair, who had been fired for refusing to release felons after they had bribed aides to Democratic Governor Ray Blanton in order to obtain clemency.[27] With Thompson's assistance, Ragghianti filed a wrongful termination suit against Blanton's office. During the trial, Thompson helped expose the cash-for-clemency scheme that eventually led to Blanton's removal from office.[16] In July 1978, a jury awarded Ragghianti $38,000 in back pay and ordered her reinstatement.[27]

5 Takeaways from NY TImes Benghazi Investigation -Time Magazine

Basically Al Qaeeda had no role in the attack, and the movie DID spur the initial assault.

Nobody ever cared that much about any AQ connection. The outrage comes from these facts: 1.) Before the attack, the ambassador was worried about security and requested reinforcement but never got it. 2.) During the attack, the US had plenty of resources to defend the embassy and rescue the diplomats, but chose not to. 3.) After the attack, the administration claimed the attack was a spontaneous response to a youtube video, and maintained that position long after it was obviously false. 4.) Hillary Clinton's defense was "People are dead at this point what does it matter?" I wonder if the administration would accept that defense from BP: "Millions of barrels of oil were dumped into the gulf. Significant damage was done. But at this point, what does it matter whose fault it is?"

The NYT' counters the trivialities but ignores the heart of the scandal. It's a puff peace clearly intended to insulate Hillary from her terrible performance WRT Benghazi. It's as if National Review concluded their hard-hitting investigation of Watergate and concluded that the accusations that the burglars were double parked were false.

That depends on whether Mr. and Mrs. Fred Thompson think it's a good idea.

Yeah, It's a puff-piece and Daniel Pearl suffered a minor head wound, right? 1) You obviously didn't read it. and 2) your notions of a Watergate-style cover-up are sad. Never thought you would fall in line with Darrell Issa...oh well.
