Re: ACC - Conference Discussion
11 ACC teams in post season bowls including two BCS teams.
I'm still not convinced the ACC is fully invested in football as a whole but that should make for a nice payday when the dust settles.

Re: ACC - Conference Discussion
Have to figure a few of those teams will lose money on their bowl games. And a couple others will probably just break even.

Re: ACC - Conference Discussion
Possibly, but:
Miami plays in Orlando ($2.275M)
VT plays in El Paso ($2M)
UNC plays in Charlotte ($1.7M)
GT plays in Nashville ($1.8375M)
BC plays in Shreveport ($1.15M)
UMd plays in Annapolis ($1M)
Pitt plays in Detroit ($750K)
Cuse plays in Houston ($1.7M)
Clemson plays in Miami ($17M)
FSU plays in Pasadena ($18M)
Pitt looks to be a loser, and even though it's in their backyard I'm sure UMd will squander as much ACC money as it can as it walks out the back door. BC is probably a break even though they could bring all 12 of their fans on the team charter. The rest of the payouts are pretty good really and the total is >$45M.

Re: ACC - Conference Discussion
A second BCS team from a conference does not get the full bowl payout, so Clemson's contribution to the ACC share will be like $6M not $17M.
Sure, I could have stayed in the past. I could have even been king. But in my own way, I am king.

Re: ACC - Conference Discussion
If it's like the Big10, everyone gets equal shares of the payouts. So really, for their bowl, Pitt is only getting 1/14th of $750K. Which ain't a whole lot and won't cover the costs of travel and all the money they will owe the Little Caesars people for unsold tickets. Even if they received all 750K, I think they would prob lose money if it weren't for the ACC distribution.
So I don't know if those last few bowls are actually a net gain for the conference. After expenses everyone's share might be slightly higher if a couple teams sat home. Coaches obviously don't want that.

Someone has created a twitter feed dedicated to the hope that every Coastal team finishes 4-4 in conference play this year.

Re: ACC - Conference Discussion
Saw this tweet today - "According to f/+, ACC has 8 of the 30 best teams. SEC with 6, PAC and B12 with 5, B1G with 4."
f/+ is a computer ranking system that uses relative offensive and defensive performance to determine strength - http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/feiplus. FWIW, FSU is currently 8th in f/+ (though we were #1 most of last season).
