First of all, in my eyes, Rush Limbaugh, or anyone else, has just as much qualifications as the pope.

You misunderstood my post. Christ did warn people of the trappings of wealth. You forgot about the rich young ruler who couldn't leave his riches to follow Christ, but He never scolded the government of the day as to how much they were helping the poor or not. He knew the problem was with the hearts of individuals and not with institutional policies.

Sardis,

From 1 Timothy, Ch. 6:

[7] For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
[8] And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.
[9] But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
[10] For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows

That was the Gospel appointed for last Sunday according to the correct Orthodox lectionary.

In the Old Testament God instituted all kinds of laws requiring Israel to take care of its poor.

In Jesus' day the government was the Roman Empire. When it came to helping the poor, they were a bit of a lost cause.

The Old Testament also had a flat tax. I would contend that the poor are treated a whole lot better in today's America than in Old Testament Israel.

Jesus convinced Matthew to drop everything and follow him, thus depriving Rome of a top shelf tax collector.

Who was a lost cause? The Roman Empire or the poor?

High Temperatures Prepare 2013 to be Among Top Ten Global Warmest Years - International Business Times

http://www.ibtimes.com/high-temperature ... st-1467854

in a statement on the status of the climate in 2013, the World Meteorological Organization said that temperatures for the first nine months of the year tied with the same period in 2003 as the seventh warmest period on record. According to the WMO's assessment, concentrations of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, which touched record highs in 2012 are further set to reach "unprecedented highs" in 2013, signaling a warmer future.

"Temperatures so far this year are about the same as the average during the 2001-2010, which was the warmest decade on record," Michel Jarraud, WMO Secretary-General said in a statement. "All of the warmest years have been since 1998 and this year once again continues the underlying, long term trend. The coldest years now are warmer than the hottest years before 1998."
