I wasn't a JFK supporter, I was 3-years-old. I have no idea what his popularity numbers were. The assassination of a president is a tragedy despite politics, successes and failures. At least to me, I think the historical context is important as well as the use of music in doing an unrehearsed Beethoven funeral march as a comfort measure or a musical eulogy or a coping mechanism. Finally, the nostalgia of an entire audience shocked to learn of the president's death. In today's smart phone world, news is disseminated much more quickly.
