I know Frank Beamer considered it the Lord's work. He always takes the Miami game personally, and that intensity only ratcheted up when the Hurricanes hired Al Golden. There didn't seem to be any jawing between the staffs after the game. I was thinking there might be, because these two staffs really dislike each other.

I agree with Beamer.

Amen.

UNC exposed Miami a couple of weeks ago. But for a massive coaching snafu, we would've beaten them. Then FSU put the period on the expose'. So it's not like IB's call was particularly amazing. Good win for VT, but Miami isn't and never was a legit top 10 (and maybe not even top 20-25) team...

Good win Hokies. Of the possible opponents in the ACCCG, I'd like to see Miami >> Duke >>>>>>>> VT >>>>>>> GT. VT is the only opponent I'd feel less confident because of the good defense and the slim but real possibility that Logan Thomas will look more than adequate on any given Saturday. I don't want to face GT because I hate getting our DL's legs cut every play but I'm confident we would put up 50+ against them.

Miami should have lost to UNC, but for a major choke job, and they needed a 4th quarter rally to beat Wake. And they had less than 200 yards of offense against Florida. They are not as good as their record. I think the only really good-looking game I've seen them play was against GT

That 7-0 start was a curse for the Canes. All their idiot "fans" (not the 10K that show up on Saturdays, but the ones that make the Youtube videos full of "swag") thought they were the real deal and only a recruiting class or two from being back to the 80s. They just aren't that good, and now may very well lose to Duke to knock them out of the division race.

They very well could lose to Duke. Wouldn't surprise me. They seem to be on the verge of folding.

If we play you fuckers, we're going to win 223-0 just to really piss you off.

"Miami should have lost to UNC, but for a major choke job"

Choke job by the coaching staff. Or really, by the head coach. We had the ball on the 50 yd line looking at 3rd and less than 1 (had just gained close to 5 yds each on the 2 previous plays) with 4 minutes to play and we get called for a delay of game penalty. Then, on the next play, we get called for false start, so then we were looking at 3rd and 10 and got sacked. If we call a timeout (or better yet, don't try to do some bullshit substitution) and get that first down, I'd say we had about a 95% or better chance of winning that game. That wasn't on the players, that was on the coach. But yes, coaching is obviously a part of the game and the coach blew that one. Not sure I'd call that a choke job, just a complete fuck-up, which is probably worse...

Ha! No matter how much we suck, now or in the future, we will NEVER relinquish the scoring record!!111

Hell, scoring a hundred now would bring charges of bullying to the school.

Heh - after posting that I did some research on that game. GT had 1,620 yards of rushing in that game. And not a single forward pass, though they did give up a whopping 10 yard gain on a pass to Cumberland. Unfortunately it was 4th and 22 at the time.

Thanks. You guys have an excellent team. BC needed all 4 of VPI's turnovers (and needed to make zero turnovers or penalties of their own), just to barely win. The fact that it was so close in score at the end is indicative of the talent on your team (or lack there-of on BC's team.)

It would not suprise me if VPI beat FSU in the ACC Championship.

VT athletic director Jim Weaver is stepping down the end of next month. His contract ran through December of 2015, but his ongoing struggle with Parkinson's disease and his need for hip replacement surgery forced him to opt for early retirement. Weaver effectively managed the football program(apart from his 2000 tiff with Frank Beamer that nearly wrecked it), got major facilities upgrades accomplished for nearly every athletic program, and most importantly, helped make the case for VT's invitation to the ACC, which has been a godsend for VT's Olympic sports-- the soccer programs, track and field, softball, baseball and wrestling have all improved drastically during Weaver's tenure. Even basketball had some bright spots, though Weaver was not adept at hiring or managing basketball coaches. On the whole, he has made an enormously positive contribution to Virginia Tech athletics, and his service will be missed.

Ironic for the man who made VT hip again...

I pretty much agree with the above assessments of Miami-- they were a pretender(much as VT was before the Duke game) as a top fifteen team, and they were clearly hobbled by the loss of Duke Johnson. Even so, they were still the most talented team VT had played since Alabama, and the Hokies' offensive performance was their best of the season by a considerable distance. It wasn't a major upset, but it was a very encouraging game for this program.

Frank Beamer and Al Golden had been at odds since the recruiting of Kevin Jones when Golden was an assistant at Penn State, but apparently both coaches took steps recently to bury that hatchet. I'm still convinced Frank Beamer will always have it in for Miami, but he seems to have let his personal distaste for Al Golden go.

Every single team in college football wants the exact same curse after 7 games.
