Re: UCLA Bruins
I liked Goodfellas a bit better. Both are good.

Re: UCLA Bruins
I liked them both a lot. One of the informers against the Mob and against the Pesci character in Casino is in the movie
My Dad is my hero still.

Re: UCLA Bruins
Yeah, both are Scorsese movies with Pesci and De Niro and some of the same minor character actors floating around. and they are 1a and 1b. I prefer Goodfellas because Sharon Stone's way over the top acting job in Casino.hedge wrote:I think I'm getting confused b/w Goodfella and Casino. Aren't alot of the same people in both?

Honestly Hedge. You've never seen Good Fellas from start to finish? When was the last time you had your Man Card stamped? 6th grade?

Do we need to have that "how many of the top-100 films have I seen" discussion again?

Re: UCLA Bruins
Pesci didn't have much of a stretch to go from Good Fellas to Casino
another thing about his character in Good Fellas - reddit mentions "he had something to prove" but doesn't explain why. After reading up on it, I learned that Pesci's character in the movie had a brother that was an informant who was killed. So you have a pyschopath who has it in his head he has to show everyone he's 100% mafia
He had an older brother who as far as they know didn't do anything and they wanted to kill him too just for being in the family. He ended up being sentenced to life in prison and died there.
What a family , eh?
Another story that didn't make it into the movie was his first murder. He got a new gun and wanted to see it shoot so he randomly shot a guy walking down the street.

I like the stinky pinky but only up to the first knuckle, I do not want a GD thumb up there--I've told her multiple times and I always catch her when she tries to pull a fast one---it's my butthole for Chrissakes I'm gonna know--so cut out the BS.

I'm having a mindblank on which movie--wanna say goodfellas where the hit takes place pool side they wound the guy then comeout by the pool and shoot the guy in the top of the head.
anyhoo the guy doing the hit was really the guy who did the hit 30 years earlier.
the gangster museum in vegas is awesome by the way--section on gangster movies among others- one room with the best hits of all time--poarticulaly gruesomne. well worth the 8 bucks

I am sorry, no one is as badass as Michael Corleone in Godfather II, calmly and calulatingly ordering out executions taking communion in church. Even family members were not safe.

Too old fucks are chase each other in Costa Rica and the wounded one stumbles out to the pool and the hit man walks up behind him with the revolver pointed to the top of his head and said "Where are you going jackoff?" BLAMO!

Re: UCLA Bruins

mob museum says scorsece was used the actual hit man that scene was based on as a consultant on the film. the hit guy kep telling the actors they were doing the pool scene wrong. Finally Scorcese decided to use the hit man in real life as the hit man on film doing the pool hit to get it right

I haven't seen Casino either, just bits and pieces. Gives me something to look forward to, although I have to admit that outside G1 and G2, I'm not terribly interested in mob movies. For instance, I thought The Departed was OK, but I would never call that a truly great movie, even though I found it enjoyable. Somewhat along this genre line, I found LA Confidential to be much more interesting than The Departed. The fact that (IIRC) Crow hated it made me like it even more. I do enjoy older noir movies, which is probably why I like, e.g., David Lynch movies so much. But just the straightforward brutal gang dude who you know will kill anyone for any reason b/c, well, he's in the mob and that's what they do, etc, etc, I don't really go in for. Not saying that's what Goodfella and Casino are about, but that was my assumption. But of course with so many in here touting them, I am going to plan on watching them soon. I suspect I will be pleasantly surprised...

FWIW, in my opinion, Goodfellas and Casino >>>>> The Departed.

Gangster Squad is a good popcorn movie - if you liked The Untouchables, you'd like it
