3. New England (5-1). Where does that rank on the Tom Brady all-time list of great wins? I say it’s got to be in the top six or eight. Let’s see. Three Super Bowls, and two AFC title wins over the Colts, then … what else?

5. Indianapolis (4-1). Comparing the first 21 games of the Indianapolis careers of Peyton Manning and Andrew Luck: Record—Luck 15-6, Manning 6-15. Passing yards—Luck 5,518, Manning 5,134. Touchdown-interception differential—Luck plus-10, Manning plus-2.

One probably shouldn't read too much into that. Manning was drafted when the Colts were down - for a few years and across the lineup. Luck was able to be snapped up thanks to a one-year aberration in a long run of Colt success.

I'm a Luck fan, though. In two or three years the Colts will once again be my team and I'll settle in for a good long run.

funny, we kept hearing all season long that the 2-14 record showed how great Pey-Pey was, and how poor the talent around him was that he had to 'carry' to the playoffs.

Now it was 'just an abberation' and the rest of the roster was good enough all along?

Actually the 4 MVPs and SB MVP are a better measure, but your point is taken.

The 2011 Colts were built around Manning, not Chuck Painter or Dan Orlovsky. If you have a pipefitter leading a symphony orchestra, then the results would be just a predictable.

But what the hey...I'll concede that Luck was a better qb in his first season-and-a-half than PM was back in '98-'99. Now you can post another peyton-face and go rub one out. heh

Facts for Dave:

Despite concerns about his arm strength and mobility,[35] Manning was selected first overall in the 1998 draft by the Indianapolis Colts.[36] In his rookie season, he passed for 3,739 yards with 26 touchdowns, set five different NFL rookie records, including most touchdown passes in a season, and was named to the NFL All-Rookie First Team.[37][38][39] Manning's first win came against fellow rookie quarterback Ryan Leaf, 17–12 over the Chargers.[40] Weeks later, Manning faced off against Steve Young; he threw three touchdowns, tying a Colts rookie record, but the 49ers kicked a late field goal to win 34–31.[41] In November against the Jets, Manning threw for three touchdowns in a 24–23 win; he was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week for this performance. It was the first game-winning drive of Manning's career, as he hit Marcus Pollard with the game-winning TD pass.[38][42] Manning was certainly a bright spot in 1998 for the Colts, but he also threw a league high 28 interceptions as the team struggled to a 3–13 record with a defense that gave up more than 27 points per game. The Colts lost many close games, including five games in which they had led by double-digits at some point.[43][44]

Harrison first year with Manning and Harrison missed 4 games - 59 rec, 776yds.

Next season - 115 rec, 1663 yds. He would then have 8 straight seasons of over 1100 yds+ per season

Season without Manning:

The Colts offense had weakened rapidly in 2011. They were 30th in the league in yards gained (compared to 4th in 2010), 27th in passing yards (compared to 1st in 2010), 29th in receiving yards (compared to 2nd in 2010), 28th in scoring (compared to 4th in 2010), and 28th in total touchdowns (compared to 2nd in 2010).

The Colts set a dubious NFL record on pass defense, by allowing 71.2% completed passes by opposing passers.[5]

The team wasn't built for Painter and Orlosky. It just wasn't. They blew most of it up and was able to convince Reggie to stay.

Players that were let go after said season:

QB Peyton Manning
WR Pierre Garçon
RB Joseph Addai
WR Anthony Gonzalez
TE Dallas Clark
TE Jacob Tamme
C Jeff Saturday
DE Jamaal Anderson
CB Jacob Lacey
LB Gary Brackett
DB Melvin Bullitt

So Yes, Peyton does make everyone around him better.

And if that doesn't do for it for you how about this...

"To me, he's the greatest of all time. He's a friend of mine, and someone that I always watch and admire, because he always wants to improve, he always wants to get better, and he doesn't settle for anything less than the best. So, when you watch the best and you're able to learn from the best, hopefully that helps me get better."
—Tom Brady, on Peyton Manning.[34] Staff, NFL.com (2011-07-03). "The ‘Top 100′ comes down to Brady-Manning". NFL.com. Retrieved 2011-07-31.

So Andrew Luck took over a team that had just released:

WR Pierre Garçon
RB Joseph Addai
WR Anthony Gonzalez
TE Dallas Clark
TE Jacob Tamme
C Jeff Saturday
DE Jamaal Anderson
CB Jacob Lacey
LB Gary Brackett
DB Melvin Bullitt

...and made them nine wins better? Damn....

Colts fans are definitely in for a better future...

Very nice backhanded compliment Rickart. HEH x 2

I fear that our TEs that were taken are not going to live up to their expectations. Hopefully the Colts can get healthy on the defensive side of the ball before the playoffs show up.

Hope Trent turns on beast mode before the playoffs begin also.

I was really worried about losing to Miami and possibly KC/Denver for wild card chances. The way Houston is shitting the bed, the Colts should be able to win the division and then host a game.

How funny would it be if the Pats 13-3 and Chiefs 14-2 win their divisions and have the first week bye. Cincy 3 seed 11-5, Colts 4 seed 10-6. Cincy gets Miami 6 seed 11-5 and Denver has to come back to Indy as a 5 seed with like 13-3 record.

KC only plays two teams the rest of the way who currently have a winning record (IND & DEN). They get Indy at home and split venues with the broncos.

They could possibly go from 2-14 to 14-2...amazing.

Indy is the only NFL team to draft a QB 4 times with the overall #1 pick. 2 won Super Bowls, 1 is in his 2nd year & one was a joke.

calling Peyton a 'joke' is a little harsh.

a 'choke' is more fitting...
