That was fun. I could have done without the 3rd model, but that's just me being greedy.

I'm not understanding all the fuss yet. Neither the Reds nor the Pirates have actually made the "Playoffs" yet. All they've been given is a chance to make it in with a one game playoff tiebreaker. (which is stupid).

Yes, if you lose the wild card game, in my mind, you really havent made the playoffs.

two things

1. I think someone needs to beat the shit out of the Braves catcher

2. I think when a pitcher goes head hunting and hits a batter from say the shoulders up, the opposing teams bench should grabs bats , run out onto the field, chase him down and bash his knees. It would only happen once and that pitcher would never retaliate hit again.

Well, that whole team...from the Logo through the manager through the players...would be penalized huge, financially and participation-wise.

well yeah but it would stop the bullshit retaliation by pitchers. You don't want to get shown up , then throw the goddamn ball better

I love that. Stop the catcher with the armor on, then get the guy who did it.

Either that, or wait until you hit a homerun off of the guy and then stare at and glide around the bases.

The Braves catcher (McCann) reacted perfectly to the Gomez thuggery. Kudos to him.

And wrt Gomez, I appreciate his apology. He knows he was wrong and acted like an ass clown. He is not gonna appeal his suspension. Neither will the Braves player who got a one-gamer, Reed Johnson. MLB, correctly, did not suspend McCann.

so he gets hit twice by the pitcher, then hits a home run and talks shit to the pitcher and the catcher thinks its his place to step in?

screw McCann. I hope he gets a bat upside the head.

If Gomez has a beef he should charge the mound, not act like a punk. He's a pussy.

Hit twice? How far back are you talking about? I know he got plunked in June. I don't remember another time. But Gomez crowds the plate. It's what he does, and it pays off for him. Because of that, though, he's been hit by a pitch 38 times over the past 7 seasons. Maholm pitches inside. A lot. As a result, players who crowd get plunked from time to time.

And when Gomez did what he did yesterday, it was absolutely McCann's place to step in. He never touched him, he didn't take a swing, he just blocked the path. Brilliant move.
screw McCann. I hope he gets a bat upside the head.
That's beyond ridiculous. Because he obstructed the basepath, he deserves a baseball bat to the head? MLB has a penalty for obstructing the path. The ump awards the runner the next base. In this case, home. The ump gave Gomez home. Bat to the head? Not so much.

true, he should have mowed him over, it was within his right.

but its not a brilliant move, its a punk move, something McCann has done before. The Braves act like they own baseball decorum.

I'm no Gomez fan, could care less about him - but you can't talk about how Gomez needs to rush the mound and then have the catcher step in to defend the pitcher. He needs a bat to the head

He could have tried to run him over.

Nope, absolutely brilliant. Own baseball decorum? What are you talking about? Gomez talked and McCann talked back and blocked a basepath. Nothing more. So, you're basic argument is that Gomez should be able to yap, but no one should be able to talk back.

And what was the "hit twice" comment. When was Gomez hit by Maholm besides back in June?
One of Gomez's 38 HBP in the last 7 seasons.

Bat to the head? Nope. That would be idiotic.

I"m not all that vested in it

Anyone that throws a hard object 95+ mph at someone on purpose needs a bat to the knee.

McCann is just a punk - so he needs a bat to the head

And speaking of being hit by a pitch, Jason Heyward, who had his face smashed and his jaw fractured by a pitch a month ago is apparently back in full swing: He was 5 for 5 with a homer tonight.

On purpose? What are you talking about? When Maholm hit Gomez BACK IN JUNE (not twice), it was in the leg. And Gomez was crowding the plate then. It happens. He ended up with a sore knee (but didn't have to go on the DL) and stewed about it for three fucking months. Both crowding the plate and getting plunked are a part of baseball.

Again, happy that MLB came through with the correct call and did NOT suspend McCann. Brian McCann should have probably punched Gomez in the throat, but he showed great restraint. McCann should be applauded, provided with cold, domestic beers (manly beers), and given cash prizes as well as the key to the city of Marietta.

Speaking of good calls, Barry Larkin, as he usually does, has the exactly correct perspective on the matter:
