Of course oil production dropped in 2010 (the Macondo blowout). BP oil fire.
From the Motley Fool: http://www.fool.com/investing/general/2 ... lf-of.aspx
Fast-forward to today, though, and things are looking a whole lot brighter. A new study by consultancy Wood Mackenzie found that deepwater drilling activity in the Gulf finally returned to pre-Macondo levels last year. And going forward, the Gulf is likely to make a strong comeback, as a host of leading exploration companies continue to invest in the region, encouraged by recent exploration successes.
Now, I have no idea if Wood Mackenzie is liberal, conservative or independent.

"Unless you are an independent trucker, I don't see high fuel prices effecting anyone's quality of life."
I own two commercial trucks and gas (diesel, actually) prices certainly affect my bottom line, although I wouldn't necessarily say my quality of life. The trucks are a sideline for me, but for independent owner/operators, you're right...

What difference does the quantity make, it's still a world market. Just b/c you're happier that your gas money is going to JR Ewing rather than Sheik Mohammad doesn't mean you're going to be paying less. The idea that JR Ewing is going to take less for his oil or not sell it to China (or whoever is the highest bidder) but instead hold it back for good ol' Amuricans just b/c he's "local" is ridiculous...Toemeesleather wrote:Owlman wrote:The Canadian Pipeline has nothing to do with energy independence. In fact, because it's a world market, very little we do in terms of production has much effect on our energy independence. We'd have to pass a law preventing oil production in the country from being put on the world market and limit a large percentage of it to domestic sales only to do that. I doubt any politician is willing to do that although I wouldn't mind
In the quantities produced today, this is mostly true....we need to realize the full potential of tar sands/fracking and the Gulf of Mexico to make any difference, and of course this admin is doing everything possible to cut production in the Gulf of Mexico.[/i]

Look for it, you'll find your criticism if you want on those channels. That's what you wanted, it's there for the taking. You just have to do some homework, if you care enough about it.Toemeesleather wrote:You will find conservatives on most of those shows...

Toe reminds me of the Kevin Costner character in that Wolves movie. The forts been deserted, overrun, or whatever ( puterbac's gone). Toe stands alone against the unwashed.

When I mean independence, I mean from the middle east. Sending profits to JR Ewing in Texas and Dudley Do Rights in Canada is a whole lot safer for us than sending profits to arab sheiks.

open market. No effect on prices. We aren't independent unless we stop our oil from being sold on the open market. Is that what you are advocating sardis?

Actually Hagman in real life was a super lefty liberal type, he hawked solar energy, was involved in some political peace party, did not speak on Sundays for most of his adult life due to some buddhist belief and was generally an LSD-taking pot-smoking 1960's hippy type. Cool guy...

Heh...as someone working for a major energy producer...we hype up the 'energy independence' angle quite a bit, Amurica and all that, but truthfully we dream of exporting it to China and Japan.
