I like the stinky pinky but only up to the first knuckle, I do not want a GD thumb up there--I've told her multiple times and I always catch her when she tries to pull a fast one---it's my butthole for Chrissakes I'm gonna know--so cut out the BS.

Did you hear Paula Deen opened up a new restaurant?
It only serves crackers.

U*NC is the cleanest most honest athletic program on the planet. I am jealous of their deserved success, and I'm a mewling cunt.

Re: UCLA Bruins
So she said this a long time ago and now she has to pay for it?
You know what if I was in her corner, this is what I would tell her. Own it. Don't cry about it. Don't beg for forgiveness. Just go out there and just say "Yup, I said it a bunch of times. You know what, I am not proud of it, but I said it. I'm from the south and well it isn't an excuse but I can't take it back. I can only try to be better."
That is it. Nothing else to say. If people keep hounding her, just brush them off, and say "I know I not the only white person on television to ever use a racial slur and I won't be the last." Smile and move on.
Her trying to do damage control to me is hurting her more IMO

Sure, I've been called a xenophobe, but the truth is, I'm not. I honestly just feel that America is the best country and the other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism.

She said she said it a long time ago. The allegation is that she (and her brother) use it regularly. If you are predisposed to believe that, then you'll accept that she only used it once and it was years ago. But then again, you'd have to ignore some of the other insensitive things she's done recently, such as wanting to have the black employees dress like slaves for a theme party or talking about how southerners were nicer to "black folk" because they interacted so much that they were like family.BigRedMan wrote:So she said this a long time ago and now she has to pay for it?

Re: UCLA Bruins
That won't work either. She needs to say yes, she's not proud, it's something she's working on and apologize. There is no excuse. Show regret and don't blame it on being a southerner or on anything else. That sounds too much like an excuse. But don't lie. Recognition that she has fallen short is missing in everything she's done to date.BigRedMan wrote:

So she's vilified for admitting something that happened years ago? Cmon now. Im sure if she made fun of Mexicans or Jews you wouldn't be on your soapbox. FYI, Alec Baldwin says hello.

Is she one of those "white niggers" that Sen. Byrd ("the Conscience of the Senate) speaks of?

No, she's vilified for things she's continued to do over the years, including the past 12 months. It is not just one thing. (This has been pointed out before, but it's easy to ignore that to continue the point of view).Jungle Rat wrote:So she's vilified for admitting something that happened years ago? Cmon now. I am sure she has used it recently along with about 40% of the white southern over 50 crowd. She is in the public eye so I get that she needs to be more responsible for her own career and such. However, running her into the ground for this is just silly for the media and everyone to over react to IMO. Let the public speak out by not buying her books, food, cooking stuff, etc... Let the consumer handle it and not the news shows that should be handling more serious stuff.
No one died because of what she said. Their life was not altered down some horrible tragic path cause they were in earshot of her saying something stupid.
Just blown out of proportion IMO.
Mel Gibson is still making movies and the people he said shit about practically run Hollywood but he is still cashing checks and living large.
Let the consumers decide is all I am saying.

Re: UCLA Bruins
Everytime something gets reported that one doesn't like, it's the media fault. If the desire is that it is reported, it's being ignored by the media (or for some, the MSM). She decided to go on the Today show. She was the one giving interviews. It's not the media fault. And every time a sponsor drops her, it's her fault and because of her notoriety, it is news just like the argument between her and Anthony Bourdain (sp?) a year or so ago was news. This isn't the media doing this, it's her and her sponsors that don't want to be associated with her.
As for the consumers deciding, they are. The consumers in this case are the companies that hire celebrities as spokespeople or any partnership. I've not seen anyone organize or suggest a boycott of any of her products.

Re: UCLA Bruins
By the way, what Mel Gibson commands as payment is significantly less than what it had been. He's also had to move more behind the camera than before the camera. He is a good example. Public figure, say something really stupid and it can cost you.

Yeah...kinda funny to use Mel Gibson as an example of someone unscathed by controversial and racist discourse.
The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.

If no one comes from the future to stop you from doing it, then how bad of a decision can it really be?
