Re: Baseball
Sometimes our little kiddie dreams do come true, and nobody had to die, yet.
Sure, I could have stayed in the past. I could have even been king. But in my own way, I am king.

Re: Baseball
Cubs will come back. The Reds bullpen demands it. Makes it fun right?
Re: Baseball
Albert Homers again in Cardinals win over Astros!
In his continuing effort to rub his former employer's faces in the dirt, Berkman also had a two-run shot.
A good time was had by all ten fans in attendance.

And Still More Bitching From LaRussa
HUMMEL'S TAKE: Cardinals manager Tony La Russa, more or less, has put behind him Cincinnati Hall of Fame broadcaster Marty Brennaman's criticisms of the Cardinals as "whiners" and the "most hated team in baseball." But what nettles him more, he said, is what he hasn't heard from the Cincinnati organization.
"There are people in that organization, from the top - (Bob) Castellini, Walt (general manager Walt Jocketty), Jerry Walker, to the players who were here - they know how we compete," La Russa said. "If you win, you shut your mouth and enjoy it. When you lose, you tip your cap.
"The guys who are in the best position (to say anything) are the owner (Castellini) and the general manager. I'm really disappointed they've been so mute - that they didn't say, ‘That's (Brennaman's) opinion. We don't necessarily agree with it.' It really bothers me."

Fuck him in his non-palsied eye.
His current condition is a curse from the baseball gods for his complicity in the steroid scandal. He hath been smote!

Bud Norris scouting report: Ordinary middle of the rotation starter, but capable of channeling Greg Maddox whenever he faces Cardinal hitters.

Re: Baseball
did you ever see Greg Maddux pitch in person?
Television didn't fully capture his mastery of the batters.

Re: Baseball
I saw Greg pitch twice at old Busch, once when he was with the Cubs and once when he was with the Braves. As you might guess, I was not particular happy with the results of either game.
Maddux was the best pitcher I ever saw. He didn't throw 95 mph, but he could flat out pitch. I doubt there will ever be another pitcher who dominates so completely without power stuff. I think he had a period, something like 6 or 7 seasons where his ERA was under 2.5 every year. He won at least 15 games for like 18 years straight, pitched 200 innings plus forever. Of course, you know all that.
The Dumbest thing the Cubs ever did was let Maddux walk.
