Answer: to enrich Wall Street, in hopes that would improve the broader economy, stimulate hiring, and reduce unemployment. QE did accomplish the first objective, but failed in the rest. It's probably coming to an end soon, which is why the Dow has been falling.
Wall street is the ONLY reason why we still have QE. They control both political parties and the fed.

Unemployment wasn't recovering quickly enough, so a decent stock market was essential to get re-elected.....and Uncle IRS.

Things getting back to normal....the Gandolfini death and Paula Deen scandal have now surpassed IRS/NSA coverage on the Today show. They are determined to get to bottom of how in world Deen used the n word thirty years ago.

The allegations date to 2007.

I happen to be near Savannah right now. Was sightseeing in the historic district just yesterday. Deen's firing is big news locally, needless to say.

Mitch McConnell raised the White Flag on the IRS scandal yesterday. Basically he admitted that there's nothing that proves the White House ordered the IRS to attack conservative groups. Went on to say that even if they didn't, it still happened on Obama's watch (which is true). But it looks like this FRESH CONSERVATIVE OUTRAGE has almost sputtered out.

http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/20 ... -over.html

And given that conservatives actually applaud spying and reading our emails and that shit, they can't really go after him on the AP story or the NSA. Except for the libertarians like Rand Paul.

So I guess it's back to Benghazi as the scandal that will force Obama's impeachment!!!!

McConnell’s speech is an attempt to reframe the issue in a way that it can survive the utter absence of incriminating facts. One method he employs is to flip around the burden of proof:

"Now we have an administration that’s desperately trying to prove that nobody at the top was involved in any of this stuff, even as they hope that the media loses interest in this scandal and moves on …"

Got that? Before Republicans were going to prove that Obama’s administration was involved. All of the evidence suggests it wasn’t. So now McConnell is framing the question as Obama trying to prove he wasn’t involved. Which, of course, he can’t. For that matter, McConnell can’t prove that he didn’t mastermind the IRS. You can’t prove a negative.

Still don't understand the whole Paula Dean thing. She admitted using the N word years ago. She lives in the South. Shocking!

When you are raised a certain way sometimes things just blurt it out of habit. I still say the word retard once in awhile but catch myself. Nigger is a bad word today but until they can prove she said it in the last 10 years this is nothing but the media trumping up something that isn't there.

If Paula Deen gets fired from the Food Network for using the N word, then why don't rappers get into similar trouble when they use the N word? (And they use it a lot.)

That being said, using the N word wasn't her biggest problem. She apparently also tried to set up a wedding with an Old South theme, complete with having black employees role play as slaves. That wasn't a slip. At best, it was incredibly stupid.

Only white people can be racist. It's a natural law like gravity and the speed of light.

Nothing beats middle-aged southern white guys complaining that blacks can use the 'n' word without getting into trouble but THEY can't. IOW, you've wanted to use the word numerous times, but held back, and resent that?

Paula Deen's already been fired, btw.

I thought it was a reasonable question. Why is the same offensive word treated with two vastly different standards by society? Please use reason in your answer. TIA.

if it needs to be explained to you then you've had your head buried in the sand for ages

it's nothing new and every nationality/race uses terms that while derogatory are used commonly among kind as a term of endearment

I work for a development company that is 80% Italian, they call each other Greasy Wops on a daily basis

Am I dumb enough to get in on that? Nope

Just like they're not dumb enough to drop an N-Bomb on me

What T Dot said. I've heard Italian guys calling each other "dagos" or "goombas" as well. Doesn't open the door for everyone to start throwing the words around. It's part of fighting back against the bigotry to use the word yourself. I know not everyone in those communities feels that way, and some prefer the words would just completely go away.

I think the most acceptable name to call someone of any race is "idiot". Or "Jackass", "cocksucker" or "dickweed". Everyone can use those

Or else an idiot to start with. Or, as I suspect is the case with Prof, it's an expression of irritation that the rules really don't apply to everyone...
