Police: Twins lived with dead mother for 3 months
HOUSTON — Twin Houston men were charged Tuesday with the murder of their 89-year-old mother after police say the pair allowed her to die on the floor in their foyer after she fell, then lived for three months with her decomposing, bug-infested corpse.
Edwin Larry Berndt and his brother, Edward Christian Berndt, both 48, were arrested Monday when police went to check on Sybil Berndt, prompted by a neighbor who called to say the elderly woman had not been seen since January...
The home was in "deplorable condition and smelled terribly," and the elderly Berndt was lying face down on the floor of the foyer, according to the documents. Sybil Berndt was dressed in a nightgown pulled up under her arms and was not wearing underwear. The body was in an advanced state of decomposition and insects were crawling around it, the documents said.
The brothers told police their mother had fallen and died, and that they didn't have enough money to bury her. They said they didn't call police because they didn't want to go to jail.
Police searched the home and found bank statements from JP Morgan Chase totaling about $700,000, according to court documents.
The twins later told police they lived with their mother and cared for her. On Jan. 10, Edwin Berndt said he and his brother were watching the BCS Championship football game when their mother "came in ranting and raving and she then fell down and did not get up." He said they decided to leave her on the floor because they didn't have money to provide her with medical treatment.

Sure, I could have stayed in the past. I could have even been king. But in my own way, I am king.

I like the stinky pinky but only up to the first knuckle, I do not want a GD thumb up there--I've told her multiple times and I always catch her when she tries to pull a fast one---it's my butthole for Chrissakes I'm gonna know--so cut out the BS.

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
Tony Wroten IMO was one of the best on the floor. He wanted to play for UK. Calipari dropped the banana on this one....would have been a great backup for Teague after he bolts for the NBA after 1 season.

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
Did any of you watch the Jordan Brand game last night?
1) Both McAdoo and Davis are going to be All-Americans and lottery picks. The Co-MVP Award was well deserved.
2) I can see the potential in Gilchrest to be the same (but I think it would take him two years).
3) Hairston can shoot and is a good (not great) athlete, but his handle sucks right now. He's got to tighten that up big time if he's going to play any WG.
4) Teague is obviously very talented, but he doesn't awe you like Wall. He also doesn't appear to have the killer instinct of Knight right now, either. But hey, I know these have only been all star settings.
5) Rivers is a complete dook* dickhead. He's going to "get his", no matter what. He's going to be easy to hate -- I already do.
6) Wiltjer definitely has talent, but he is NOT a one-and-done. He's going to be a pain in the ass to guard, given his 3-point shooting ability. But I just don't see him as the type the NBA is going to be clamoring over right away.
7) Not a bad game overall for a run-and-gun all star set up. God, is it really still six months until Midnight Madness???

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
Wroten to Davis seemed like a natural. Would have been great to see that at UK. Calipari failed on that one IMO. No doubt he knows that also.

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
Wroten seems like a handful
first, he wouldn't shut up tweeting and second, I think he was playing Kentucky fans - he was going to Washington all along but he knew he wouldn't get any national attention unless he had UK in the mix.
He is good but I don't think he was going to choose Kentucky no matter what we did

McAdoo was a load. Wroten and Beal looked good, too. Good God, if everybody comes back, UNC and UK are gonna be 1-2 all year long with nobody else close. Great way to start the new home.

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
tornado bounced right over my house. snapped a 40' evergreen in my front yard, uprooted one in my backyard but no real damage other than a dozen or so shingles and a little strip of siding plus a few pine limbs. trees both fell the other way.
I was in the bathroom taking a leak after just standing outside talking with a neighbor. the skies were dark to the west and I thought we'd be OK since it was light overhead. that thing came out of nowhere and because we're at the bottom of the hill, it went over us. I didn't even realize it was a tornado until well after I had even seen the damage. I thought it was just a wind gust. parts of town are fucked up good. big ass oak trees down, a used car dealership shredded, a dry cleaners blown out. I got lucky. or I am lucky, one.

That's not luck. That's "stupid" missing an opportunity to realize its potential.Saint wrote:tornado bounced right over my house. snapped a 40' evergreen in my front yard, uprooted one in my backyard but no real damage other than a dozen or so shingles and a little strip of siding plus a few pine limbs. trees both fell the other way.
