The fact that he fathered a child out of wedlock with the Hooters waitress he had an affair with back in the mid-1990's will only matter to the most self-absorbed, pseudo-moral, militant "Christians". Fortunately, those over-inflated gasbags are too busy bombing abortion clinics and promoting God's hatred of gays and non-believers to do anything like vote for the HoF. In fact, many of them probably believe that MLB isn't even worth watching since "baseball dun up'n and let Jackie Robinson ruin the sport."

The more reasonable will point to Chipper's charitable work the past decade - or simply concentrate on what they are charged with: baseball.

Giants general manager Brian Sabean criticized Cousins on his weekly radio show on KNBR this week, calling the play malicious and unnecessary. Sabean also said "if I never hear from Cousins again, or he doesn't play another day in the big leagues, I think we'll all be happy."

"He chose to be a hero, in my mind," Sabean said. "If that's his flash of fame, that's as good as it's going to get, pal. We'll have a long memory."

He is a complete moron. If his guy was Cousins he wouldn't be singing the same tune. It's baseball, suck it up.

If they don't want catchers to get hurt, then don't let them block the plate. You aren't allowed to do that on any other base (certainly not to the extent that catchers do at home plate) and not get called for interference.

I agree with Mook. All this talk about baring runners from hitting catchers is stupid. How's a runner supposed to score if the catcher is in the way and the runner isn't allowed to hit him? Sure the runner could slow down and attempt to tag the bag after passing the catcher, but that might slow the runner down enough for the catcher to receive the throw and tag the runner.

Either change the rule allowing catchers block the plate, or tell them not to block the plate or take your chances. But in any case, stop boo-hooing about it. There is no crying in baseball.

Things seem to work fine at every other base, the runner gets tagged and is out.
Sure, I could have stayed in the past. I could have even been king. But in my own way, I am king.

At any other base the defender would get called for interference and the runner would be granted the base if they blocked the bag like a catcher does. At most, they are allowed to put their foot in front of the bag, they aren't allowed to stand a foot or two in front of the bag in body armor and deny the runner access to the base path in front of the bag.

Vice versa, players running into home would then not be allowed to slap the ball out of the mitt. They would be called out just like A-Rod was when he tried to do that running to first base in the Sox/Yanks playoff game.

I don't think it would be any more reasonable for HOF voters to consider Larry's charitable work than his bastard Hooters kid, but do concur that neither is relevant to his Hall credentials. He ought to go in first ballot, maybe he won't but it doesn't really matter, IMO the vagaries of the voting have rendered that "distinction" irrelevant.

Re the Posey play, the Giants in general and Sabean in particular have been gaping vaginas about it ever since the incident. Posey himself too, for that matter. If they want to lobby for a rule change then so be it, not sure I agree but I can understand the point of view anyway. But all this bellyaching about Cousins is unseemly, if not pathetic.

Along the lines of home plate collisions, and in a roundabout way, Hooters waitresses, I think my all time favorite was Ray Lankford scoring the winning run from second on a groundout by obliterating Darren Daulton:

You can take out any person at any base if they are in your way.

Mexico,

Larry? Bastard child? Are you really Fifer and/or a Mets fan?

If so I'd come up with some half-assed reason he shouldn't be in the HOF, which I didn't. The larry thing was mildly amusing, both because it seemed to piss him off and because he generally took it out on the Mets. As for the hooters bastard, well, that seems like the easiest to the point description.

Bottom of the tenth, one out 2 on and they intentionally walk Pujols.

Berkman up with the sacks jammed. Marmal pitching.

Albert wins it with a walk off home run in the bottom of the 12th.

Yea!!! Been waiting for that!

I don't want to suggest that Albert's slump is over cause every time I think that it isn't, but it's worth noting that he's hit 4 home runs in the last 6 games.

Trying to finish off a win against the Reds is like trying to kill Freddy Kruger.
