"I can't believe this FLOTUS/Oscars shit is actually being discussed."

Who is discussing it?

Just from my view, Today Show, CNN, MSNBC and of course Rush, WaPo Blogger Jennifer Rubin, Drudge and other conservos. Those were just what I saw, personally.

Everyone has been running the same meme, that it was excessive for FLOTUS to show up and "politicize" the Oscars. It was annoying to me because A. it's stupid and B. it has TREMENDOUS precedence, historically.

Otters

Well, now IB has an excuse.

I don't watch or listen to any of those shows. I watched the Oscars, what did she say that was political? I didn't think it was anything out of the ordinary...

thats funny I don't listen to any of them either. I did know that she gave out an oscar though but I didn't know there was any political discussion related to it.
I like the stinky pinky but only up to the first knuckle, I do not want a GD thumb up there--I've told her multiple times and I always catch her when she tries to pull a fast one---it's my butthole for Chrissakes I'm gonna know--so cut out the BS.

There wasn't anything political about it...but that's what many people were saying, that her presence alone politicized it because it was from the White House and she had the Marines (Honor Guard?) standing behind her.

I only saw it on the Today Show, as I get most of my information from reading. But, I read a shitload about it from Wapo, TPM and Drudge at different levels of curiosity and/or disgust.

Obviously the typical left/right political nitpicking about anything is the only reason, but they always have to couch it as something substantive. So what was the ostensible reason for their disapproval/disgust?

She declared of the Best Picture nominees, “They reminded us that we can overcome any obstacle if we dig deep enough and fight hard enough and find the courage within ourselves.” Alas, none of the films nor her aides reminded her to mention the military, not those personnel behind her nor those serving overseas, an odd omission for the White House that nevertheless was pleased to have them arrayed behind her like, well, set decoration.

It is not enough that President Obama pops up at every sporting event in the nation. Now the first lady feels entitled, with military personnel as props, to intrude on other forms of entertaining (this time for the benefit of the Hollywood glitterati who so lavishly paid for her husband’s election). Seriously, if [Dems] really had their president’s interests at heart, they’d steer away from encouraging these celebrity appearances. It makes both the president and the first lady seem small and grasping. In this case, it was just downright weird.

No one there would dare suggest nearly half the country didn’t vote for [Obama] and doesn’t much like [Obama] and might want to be left to their small daily pleasures. And no one there is apt to explain that the White House, the military and the first lady (not this one in particular) are institutions bigger than the Obamas and their e-mail list.

"Now the first lady feels entitled, with military personnel as props, to intrude on other forms of entertaining"

Intrude? I have no doubt that she was asked to do it. Also, seems like mentioning the military would have been the thing that would've made it political, i.e., "look how much I support the troops". This was an awards show honoring films, any comments by Mrs. Obama should've been limited to that, which it sounds like they were. Not saying that a mention of the military would've been out of place, but I can't see how anyone can claim that by NOT mentioning them, she was making it "political". Just the same old crap from the opposing party, irregardless of who is in office...

Fuck those old farts with a broomstick. Michelle has a GMA type career ahead of her once her hubby is done. She's not stupid. That video I posted back a few with Fallon shows that. I like the lady. A lot. Fuck all those old farts, die.

That dancing clip was surprisingly good. I didn't watch it for days, although it kept popping up in things I was reading...I finally watched it once Rat posted it and within hours my best friend referenced it in a text. Mrs. O can move with a fair amount of swag...and it's sad that Jimmy does look like a suburban soccer mom.

She was moving that booty here in Charlotte last year at the CIAA tourney. I like the 2nd term Michelle. She's alot hotter when she gets to act natural.

It's Hollywood for cripes sakes. If she turned it down, next in line was some transgendered AIDS sufferer who demonstrated for same sex marriage.
