Yes, that's what I mean.

Ammo prices are high. I have a collection of .45's and the best price I've found for balls (for target practice) is .35 per bullet. Cheap hollow points are about a dime more per bullet.

Man, if I enjoyed that sort of thing, I'd be spending $50 a pop at the range. I ain't even going out there if I can't get off at least 100 shots. Kinda like when I play golf...

It's an expensive sport/hobby.

Although, most of the Olympic event particpants use .22lr, which have much, much cheaper ammo. The combat events (which are not in the Olympics), however, use the bigger bore guns.

Man sues the TSA for $250,000 and wins the right to continue his case against them for false arrest after writing the 4th amendemnt on his chest.

http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2013/0 ... est-trial/

I hate the TSA's stupid security theater, but two things strike me here: (1) He is an attention whore, and (2) the TSA handled this as poorly as possibly. When he removed his shirt, read what he wrote, chuckle, pat him down as planned, pat him on his head, and send him on his way.

its not even that much cheaper to reload unless you re-use your brass, and 90% of the cheap ammo is steel, not brass and you really shouldn't reload it.

I don't even go to the gun range anymore. With gas, it costs about $100 to stay there for a couple of hours.

Yeah, new brass is high. You see a ton more 'brass rats' at the range now.

yea, used to be you could go, shoot and watch some guy show up with his $25 box of Wal-Mart remington ammo, and then go pick it up off the ground after he left.

Last time I went there were guys not even waiting for the shooters to leave before they were picking it up

Yeah. I do not suffer those folks well. Not because I collect my brass and reload (I don't do either). But I won't let people scavenge around me for safety reasons. Someone at your feet picking brass is distracting, and a distracted shooter is a dangerous one.

I'm trying to wrap my head around this, because the most comparable experience I've had is at the golf range

I'll shank a couple shots with my lob wedge then sneak 2-3 yards out to grab the ball back

I'm assuming that a bad (shanked) gun shot travels a hell of alot more than 2-3 yards

dudes run out on the range to scavenge those?

It happens some at the less regulated ranges. Usually during reloads. Most experienced shooters will not allow it.

No, not the bullet. The ejected shell casing.

you have to understand the layout - the shooter is most likely sitting on a bench and his gun is ejecting brass (if its a semi-auto) about 5 feet over his right shoulder.

but it is distracting, plus its pretty low class. And maybe the guy intends to collect brass after he finishes shooting, just not after he empties the clip, so he has to chases these guys off like orphans begging for a coin.

Cost isn't the only reason I've stopped going to the range. I can't deal with the 25 year olds that show up and insist on putting a Al-Qaeda or Armed Robber cutout at 250 yards and shoot it with an AR-15 that isn't scoped. They shoot 3 shots and then want to see if they got a head shot.

Here I am shooting my Pets Mart cardboard box with a taped bullseye target at 100 yards.

eCat, yeah there are ranges I stay away from for just that reason. A well-run place will have a Range Officer who will kick people out when they try crap like that.

Most of my range time is 10 to 25-meter rapid fire with a pistol - like the Olympic event except with a 9mm or a .40. I true my scopes on the rifles in a field at my hunting club.

I go to one in Lexington that has several different ranges. I hardly ever go to the pistol range, but the big caliber range has a gong at 300 yards. I have to admit, its fun to shoot at.

I just read yesterday that the US govt was buying weapons on the market to drive up prices and keep things scarce. If true, seems a bit idiotic.
