Why would there need to be an amendment to give government authority over militias? That makes no sense. The federalists wanted a government army, the anti- federalists were afraid that such an army could oppress the people; therefore, the need to give the right of citizens to bear arms.

No wonder people are rushing out and buying weapons when you have govrnment officials with interpretations like Owlman's to the Bill of Rights. I swear, in their minds, they can argue against any amendment they don't like.

Let me guess, he can probably justify in his mind that the Fairness Doctrine or any restriction on any media doesn't infringe on the first amendment. He can probably also justify taxing religious institutions and making them hire unbelievers in their ministries.

They are not wanting to restrict guns to prevent massacres. Oh, they will exploit the situation to trick the populace into more restrictions, but the real reason is they don't like the the first two amendments. Those amendments get in the way of government control. Since they can't legislatively repeal these amendments they will throw out these interpretations that are so off base, but sound good against the argument of public good, i.e., it makes us safer.

Read what's said Sardis. I never said that the second Amendment gave the govt control over the militias.

The Constitution already made the President the head of the militia. The second amendment didn't make the govt head of the militia, the Constitution had already done that.

Read the rest of my original post - I explained why Mustafa CAN do it, but IB CAN'T. Mustafa has absolutely NOTHING to lose - his life is crappy and death will bring a paradise that is much better than the hell on Earth he lives in now. Joe Gun Club, however, will piss and moan about the gubment while he's buying cammies and survival gear in a 1.3 million square foot, air conditioned shopping mall before he hops in a $45K truck to drive to a $300K house where he can order in a pizza and watch "Doomsday Preppers" on satellite. That dude is NOT getting off his fat ass to fight anyone . . .

Because his overmedicated/overprivileged kid is going to take that gun and shoot up a school.

You know, you are right. They have quite the coverage of the 6,000 gun grabbers marching in DC today vs. the 500,000 of march for lifers in DC yesterday.

" I swear, in their minds, they can argue against any amendment they don't like."

Any constitutional amendment can be argued against. None of it is decreed by God, it was made up by some rich ass white men, many of whom owned slaves, 200+ years ago. If you're such a dependent child that you regard the constitution as the Ten Commandments, as something that cannot be questioned or changed by rational people then you're not fit to comment on it...

"Buuhh-buuuh-buuuh But I CAn comment on it because the first amendment GUARANTEES me freedom of speech!! THAT is why I can speak my mind, because the first amendment SAYS I can!! Not because I'm a rational human being, no, but because the first amendment SAYS so!!"

There are tens of millions of rational human beings all around the world that can't say anything negative about their governments or they will be arrested and sent to prison. They are just as rational and as human as you. But they happen to live a country that does not have anything resembling our first amendment fixed in their laws.

Some of them probably live in countries where they "officially" have the right to free speech, but at some point in their past their "enlightened" and "progressive" and "tolerant" and "pluralistic" and open-minded" leaders decided that free speech is "dangerous" and "irresponsible" and must be redefined deconstructed out of existence. That could happen here. If it does, your rationality and humanity won't protect you.

Maybe, maybe not. That's precicely why we need more than the "single shots" etc because if the gubment becomes so opressive they start jack boot thugging it around no the first few won't stand a chance, but if they have something that can give them enough firepower to last for a few minutes they can make a big enough stink word will get out. First one, then two. Finally people would wake up.

But if you can disarm the populace to the point that none of the jackbooted thugs get injured, and they can just swoop in and do whatever they want whenthey want then there is much less likely to be any stink and no awakening of the general public.

One man won't do anything, ten men won't do anything but a hundred thousand is a different story.
