Gore ran a terrible campaign. He switched the thrust of his campaign several times. He ran away from Clinton most of the time and didn't use the fact that there was a robust economy. He ran as if he hadn't been Vice-President for the previous 8 years.
My Dad is my hero still.

My memory of the 2000 race was that Gore distanced himself from Clinton, which I thought was a huge mistake...

Which is why she may not run.hedge wrote:" At 74, he'd be 5 years OLDER than Reagan when he got elected."
Hils will be pushing 70 herself by 2016...
Reagan was 2 weeks shy of 71 when he was inaugurated.
Hillary would be 69 and 3 months on Jan. 20, 2017.
Ironically, I think that age might be a motivating factor for her supporters among women. I'm of the opinion that there'll be plenty of baby-boomer women telling her that she HAS to run to prove that an older woman still has value. You all gave her the moniker "pig ankled harridan" but I expect to see a mountain of support from older, menopausal/post-menopausal women as a way of validating themselves.
"Yes, my husband left me for a woman 22 years younger, but I'll show him!"
"My sons think I'm out-of-touch and don't want to be bothered with me, but I'll show them!"
"My daughter laughs at my 'mom jeans' and my hairdo, but I'll show her!"
We as men can laugh it off, but:
1 - these bitches have money - big money;
2 - they are a HUGE voting bloc - women over 50 vote in bigger numbers than any other demographic; and
3 - white women will have someone to vote for who LOOKS like them.
Obama won the women's vote - but lost healthily among white women. That won't happen to Hils. She'll get a majority of white women and damn near sweep non-white women. That's probably 51% of the electorate before a man even casts a ballot.
And (lest we forget) - she now has actually credibility from her own works as a Senator and Secretary of State (which was the traditional launching pad for Presidents in our early history). From a "gravitas" standpoint, who will the GOP have?
*Condi Rice? Heh. Has gravitas, but let's see a black woman get past Iowa. Some of the best jokes I've heard were from Republicans involving Condi's DSL.
*Paul Ryan? No gravitas, couldn't carry his own home state.
*Piyush Jindal? Not after you all left him hanging in his State of the Union response. Plus I cannot see the Posse Commitatus and Identity Christians lining up to support a Catholic whose parents are still ardent Hindus.
*Rick Perry? How the Governor of Texas has made himself into a national joke is bewildering, but he has.
*Chris Christie? Could beat a Dem, but couldn't get the GOP nomination.
*Tom Corbett? Not a bad sleeper, unfortunately "Tom Corbett - Space Cadet!" was a popular TV series in the 50s and his opponents would find a way to work it in to the dialogue. Plus, his approval ratings are sinking.
*Marco Rubio? Possibly - he is latino . . . but the wrong latino. There is a split between Caribbean heritage Latinos (Cuban, Puerto Rican) and Central American heritage Latinos (Mexican, Salvadorean, etc.) over immigration. Cubans have had unfettered access to immigration but have supported the GOPs tough anti-immigrant stances, which is a sore spot for Republican Mexican-Americans, which is a bigger bloc. Also, Rubio's BIL is heavily tied to the Columbian drug cartels and Rubio himself has had some issues with misappropriating campaign funds. Another looming issue is Rubio's being caught in a lie about his family history. He claims his parents escaped the Castro regime in 1959 under threat of death, but apparently his parents had moved to Florida several years earlier . . .

I support BC not because of Catholicism but because of geogrpahy. I was freshman in high school in Massachusetts when Doug Flutie crushed Miami with that pass. Football in Massachusetts didn't really exist prior to that moment so.... even though I could never have attended that school because my folks didn't have that kind of money I kinda-sorta have to root for the Eagles....sardis wrote:IB's relentless support of Boston College and Creighton has me questioning his Protestantism...

Creighton is struggling, losing their last 2 to go 17-3. They do not play in a strong enough conferance to make the tourney at 25-5 if they don't win their conf tourney outright. So they really can't lose anymore. They need to go 27-3 to make sure they get into the tourney. I don't know if they have the horses right now.

STUDENT USES AR-15 TO STOP HOME INVASION
by MARY CHASTAIN 24 Jan 2013, 10:32 AM PDT 6 POST A COMMENT
While Democrats attempt to ban "military-style assault weapons" like the AR-15, a Rochester Institute of Technology student used that very gun to thwart home invaders and save his roommate’s life.
Christopher Boise heard noises in the basement of his apartment; when he went to investigate, he found two intruders. One of the men trained a gun on him. Boise screamed, which woke his roommate, Raymond, who grabbed his gun bag and took out his AR-15. One invader opened Raymond’s door only to see the barrel of the gun.
"By the time I had it out and ready, one of the men came at my door, slowly opened it, saw that there was a barrel on the other side and from there backed out," Raymond said.
The men fled the apartment without taking anything. No shots were fired in the confrontation. "I'm happy he saved my life. I was very thankful he had his (gun)," said Boise.
A few weeks ago, a 15-year old boy used his father’s AR-15 to stop two home invaders when he and his sister were home alone.

Sounds like BS to me. From the original source, this kid was upstairs and saw the two gunmen downstairs. If someone has a gun on you and you scream, methinks they'd be more inclined to shoot you or leave immediately, rather than creep upstairs and open your roommate's door. Also, if I go through a door and see the barrel of a gun, I would shoot first on the theory that if I try to leave, I'll get shot in the back.puterbac wrote:Christopher Boise heard noises in the basement of his apartment; when he went to investigate, he found two intruders. I certainly hope that apartment is off-campus. Otherwise, RIT Residence Life might have Raymond expelled from school for having an AR-15 in a "gun-free-zone."puterbac wrote:STUDENT USES AR-15 TO STOP HOME INVASION

The only obstacle to Hillary's coronation might be Chris Christie, but I doubt the repubs have sense enough or will enough to nominate him. Anyone other than Christie would lose in an absolute landslide to Hillary. And even Christie would probably lose badly due to the dumbass wing of the repub party that won't vote for him b/c he's not "conservative" enough...

Yeah, I'm sure if the burglar opened the door and was staring into the barrels of a shotgun, he would've just laughed. It had to be an AR-15 to get the effect that it did...

"Idiocy. Stupidity," Garcia told reporters. "We had individuals who did not care about putting other people in harm's way. It was a ridiculous, adolescent confrontation that occurred. But if we can make an example out of anyone, we will."

Out of 350 million people we have 11K-12K gun homicides a year. Out of that, 400 are with rifles. It is so immaterial that it is a waste of legislative time to bother restriction.

I inherited my granddaddy's Remingtons - a rifle and a shotgun. Both were at least 40 years old when I got them, and that was 20 years ago.bluetick wrote:Figures. An AR-15 is for pussy video gamers.

Long story short, my brother had a business related hunting trip and wanted to borrow the guns. He hasn't been hunting since we were kids and didn't want to buy guns that he'd likely never use again. They were in my attic in a gun bag and hadn't been cleaned, oiled or fired in at least 30 years (I never fired them). My brother got them, sent them to be clean and took them to the range the day before his trip. They worked like they were brand new.
That was the hallmark of America - quality workmanship. Now you guys are buying guns from China.

Not to go back to MLK, but Toe is right about the reason he was in Memphis to begin with. He was there to support the city's sanitation workers, who were on strike.
