Here's an article from today on Foster:
But in an interview after the luncheon, he stressed he doesn't know where he'll play college football and didn't even mention the name of a single school.

"I'm confused right now," he said. "I've got two more weeks."

Soft? I think when they come out say "I am considering other schools" it's hard to call them a 'commitment'.

No argument there.

I just checked the Scout commit list, and Foster is no longer even listed as a "soft" commit to Auburn, like he was a couple of days ago. That probably got updated the minute Saban's car pulled out of the Auburn High parking lot today. So surprise there either.

Or perhaps they read the al.com article from early December where Foster said "I AM NO LONGER A COMMIT TO THE UNIVERSITY OF AUBURN!!!1"

You might be thinking of Dee Liner. He also went soft when Trooper left, but did not officially decommit from Auburn until a couple of days ago. He recently got downgraded from 5 to 4 stars, so I thought that meant he was staying with Auburn, or at least turned down Alabama, but I guess not.

To be honest, I can't really blame any great athlete for going with Alabama right now. They certainly present an enticing picture to a kid dreaming of the NC's and the NFL. Thank God the NCAA has schollie limits that even apply to Nick Saban.
We'll have the REC look into that right away... Bear was never impeded with such trivialities...

aTm currently has 34 commits and Georgia has 29. I thought the annual bag limit was 25.

With these numbers for other schools, the REC should be able to raise Saban's limit to at least 50.

A&M has 8 early enrollees that count back to last year plus Flowers who in my understanding did not get in to school early and thus will not be coming in at all. So that's 33, 8 back to the 2012 class, and 25 to 2013. We also have at least one grade risk and one likely MLB loss among the remaining 25.
Sure, I could have stayed in the past. I could have even been king. But in my own way, I am king.

Maybe they're called soft commitments b/c nobody thinks they're going to be good players...

Now that you're in the SEC, you should oversign and then cull the non-hackers with medical hardships.

i don't get all the flack people throw toward Saban / staff re... medical hardships. The team physicians make decisions about a person's ability to play physically. And of ALL the med schollies UofA has issued, only ONE has received permission to play at another university.

Of course, AU did oversign more than UA between 08-11....

Please note that I said "SEC." I did not single out Bama or Saban. IIRC, the worst oversign/medical redshirt offender was Ole Miss.

Oversigning is not medical hardshipping.

Medical hardshipping is when a doctor says it's not safe for a player to play and as opposed to just pulling the athletic scholarship at the end of the year, the kid is granted a full ride to finish their studies.

But because ONE writer found ONE kid who was disgruntled, it was a Saban being an asshole. He forced the MDs to say the player was medically unfit!! By the way, if the player disagreed with the doctor's assessment, we sent him for a second opinion, or even a third in the case of Ezekiel Knight (who went to the Mayo Clinic to be told that his heart condition precluded him from competition). And, to be noted about the one kid who was disgruntled (Kirschman): He took the full-ride medical hardship and never played anywhere else. Ever. By rule, he could have transferred anywhere without sitting out. All he had to do was find a doctor who would clear him to play and he would be golden!

Athletic scholarships are only for one year. If it's to make way for better players, you do NOT have to renew the schollie.

But, hey, do away with medical hardships!

And, re: signing: Since 2009, Alabama has signed 88. Auburn has signed 91.

Here's the kind of mess that happens when you play players who are hurt and think they should not have played:
Chaz Ramsey suing former Auburn coach, trainer; Update: Nall says lawsuit is a surprise

Heninger said on WJOX on Thursday that Nall and Gamber forced Ramsey to participate in off-season training that was against the orders of Ramsey's doctor. Ramsey was coming off back surgery when he reinjured his back during training before last season, the suit claims. Heninger said he doesn't expect the suit to come to trial for a year.

Ramsey played one season at Auburn and was named to freshman All-SEC team as an offensive guard. He was not on the team last year.

"He lost out on a lot of future because of the coaches and the trainer insisted he do something his doctors said he should not,'' Heninger said.

Heninger said Ramsey reinjured his back ``because of being intimidated into doing offensive line drills and weight room activities which absolutely should not have been doing.''

The ONLY medical hardship from Alabama to ever play at another school was Ezekiel Knight (heart condition). DCH doctors said no. UAB doctors said no. Mayo Clinic doctors said no.

His family's country doctor said yes, but the only school that would risk letting him play was Stillman, and they made him sign a waiver of liability. Oh, and he had played in many games at Bama and was working his way in as a starter before the MDs found his heart conidtion. It's not like he was a wash-out. SABUN = THE DEBIL!
