In the past two games I've gone from hoping we're an elite 8 team to rationalizing that going to the NIT would help us with the total number of wins against Kansas.
Would you take last year for this year? If so, shut it.

I'm not complaining - just recalibrating my expectations

Apparently she didn't recalibrate enough.

Huntington Prep shines on ESPN

January 13, 2013 @ 12:00 AM

The Herald-Dispatch

HAMPTON, Va. -- Huntington Prep's Andrew Wiggins put on a show Saturday in the boys basketball program's first nationally-televised contest, scoring 28 points to lead the Express in a 70-49 win over Cape Henry (Va.).

The game was part of the MLK Round Ball Classic and was seen on ESPN.

Cape Henry had no answer for Wiggins, whose quick-burst leaping ability had him finishing at the rim throughout the contest. The No. 1 college prospect in the Class of 2013 showed why Kentucky, Florida State, North Carolina and many others are after his services.

Despite Wiggins' performance, the contest stayed tight until the fourth quarter when the Express wore down Cape Henry, who used just six players in the game.

The Express outscored Cape Henry, 24-11, in the fourth quarter to distance the score. Arkansas Razorbacks recruit Moses Kingsley had six of his eight points in the final period.

Cape Henry was able to stay in the contest based on its shooting from the outside. The Dolphins finished the game with nine 3-pointers, including six in the second half.

James Paige led the Dolphins with 19 points while Ayron Hutton added 15 -- all on 3-pointers.

Wiggins was joined in double-figures by Xavier Rathan-Mayes, who scored 12 of his 14 points in the second half.

Rathan-Mayes had eight points in the third quarter to help extend the lead to 46-38 before Huntington Prep (17-1) took over in the fourth.

After a bit of a slow start by both teams, Wiggins asserted himself in the second quarter, scoring 11 of the Express' 13 points in the period.

However, Cape Henry (11-2) was right in the contest, trailing just 29-24 at halftime.

Huntington Prep returns to action with a road matchup with the University of Charleston junior varsity on Wednesday before a Friday game against La Lumiere (Ind.) at the Flyin' To The Hoop tournament in Dayton, Ohio, and a Sunday clash with New Hampton at the Hoophall Classic in Springfield, Mass.

The Sunday game at 5 p.m. will be on ESPN.

HUNTINGTON PREP 16 13 17 24 -- 70: Gill-Caesar 8, Grandstaff 5, Landry 2, Rathan-Mayes 14, Woodson 2, Novak 3, Wiggins 28, Kingsley 8.

CAPE HENRY 9 15 14 11 -- 49: Langton 5, Hall 2, Paige 19, Hutton 15, Clarke 4, Morris 4

Strange to think that UK, UNC and UCLA could all be bubble teams after being ranked in the top 10 to start the season. Wouldn't surprise me to see all 3 in the NIT.

Certainly lends credence to whoever was saying UK, UNC, etc, are sometimes overrated based on reputation alone.

it will be interesting to see where UK is ranked next year. Will a team full of future NBA players get a top 5 ranking or will a team of inexperienced freshmen be ranked in the top 25?

I suspect a team full of seasoned sophomores and stud freshmen will rightly be judged as a top 5 (minimum) team...

Calipari will lobby for all 4 freshmen to be drafted.... if nothing else just for his ego alone. Only Noel is NBA material at the moment.

Noel is the only NBA caliber kid on the team.

Goodwin is frustrating - he is a black hole , they throw him the ball and then turn around and go back down the court because they know they ain't getting the ball back.
