maybe, but how much money does a coach who goes 11-0 at Notre Dame makes versus a coach who went 11-0 and then puts in 3 more seasons at 9-2, 8-3,and 6-5 will make going to the NFL?

Unless he thinks he's got another undefeated season in his immediate future, his stock won't get any higher

oh I agree but to me, right now, I own South Bend. Nobody is thought of higher. I can get away with having 1-2 loss season and playing in BCS games or at least cracking the top 4 that will play in their "tourney".

As NFL coaches go, unless you finish .500 or above on your 2nd season, you may be looking for a new job.

at any rate, its probably a great leverage move for him against Notre Dame, especially after they committed long term to Charlie Weis and swore they wouldn't get burned like that again.

Kelly denied having any interest in an NFL coaching job this past Saturday, claiming that leaving Notre Dame "is not an option. I don't even think about it."

The 51-year-old Kelly has steadily climbed the coaching ladder, from Division II Grand Valley State to Central Michigan to Cincinnati to Notre Dame, winning big at every stop along the way.

Kelly has a 28-11 record in three seasons with the Fighting Irish.

"I think from my perspective I've got the best job in the country, NFL, college, high school, whatever," Kelly said Saturday. "I just look at the place that I'm at and thankful for the opportunity that I have."
