I don't know about his re-election chances. The media will continue to give him all the help he might need.

I don't see why. I'm old enough to remember getting medical services directly from the doctor without having any insurance companies involved. The doctors always got paid with money.

Maybe there are a few Marcus Welby's still out there, Dora. But most doctors anymore won't take you on if you aren't backed by a guaranteed payer.

Well Tick I know many, many, many docs and none of them refuse to see patients based on insurance. Not one. I don't either. Maybe it's a surgeon thing, but I know plenty of FP docs too and they still take uninsured patients so I don't think so, but I do admit the majority of docs I know are surgeons and they have a different outlook so that may skew it somewhat.

Nope, there is no skew. I've been to non surgeons & so has my guy. No one has ever turned us away for no insurance. Not once. When there was a big bill we couldn't pay at once, they let us pay it off.

One of the worst things ever to happen to medical care was when individuals allowed doctors to bill insurance companies first. That makes a third party responsible for your medical care. Which means they decide what they will pay. Which means they decide how long you should stay in the hospital for whatever reason you are admitted, instead of you and your doctor.

or you could chose to stay in the hospital after your insurance runs out which puts you in the same situation as having no insurance except an insurance company pays for the first few days instead of having no one else helping you pay the bills at all.

surely the same people that pay for an illegal immigrant to stay in the hospital for 10 days with a cold would cover the extra couple of days for your heart surgery.

What about those seniors whose Carribbean cruises are being subsidized by SS?

What about them? SS isn't currently a welfare program. Everyone paid in so everyone should get what they were promised.

Of course they got in first which is always good in a ponzi/pyramid scheme. A private company trying to duplicate the tenets of SS would be shut down and everyone would be prosecuted rather quickly.

I do pretty well at reading graphs. I see 2001. Tax cut in early 2001, I see revenue dropping (same thing in 1981 if one goes and looks).

You are correct, but you also know that then 9/11 happened and a few million jobs were lost so we had a lot fewer people paying taxes.

You also know that the tax cuts were fully put in place in 2003 including the high bracket cuts. You also know that when you remove uncertainty business is willing to spend more money and you also know we had almost 48 months straight of job growth.

And revenues increased despite the cuts. More people working and paying taxes is a good thing.

This is a big day. We may be witnessing the birth of a whole new PNN doctrine. There are several others (wage earners are lazy leachers while managers are unsung heroes, the rich are more productive and therefore inherently better than the poor, union and government workers are worthless dirtbags, W was a great president, Obama is a foreign-born Muslim atheist, et al).

Now we may have a new one: people who work their whole lives paying into SS and therefore expect to get something back for all they paid into it when they retire, are trying to kill their children.

Well if they just cross their arms and refuse to acknowledge reality then yes.

Of course pretty much everyone of us is responsible to a certain degree because we keep putting people in office who largely want to ignore the problem instead of trying to fix it. Of course W did try and was blistered by both sides.

Most predictable crisis in history and we just keep letting out elected officials kick the can down the road because we want what is ours.

I spend $8500 a year before I get anything from the insurance. My guy has never had to spend that much a year for medical care.

Before you get anything? So being covered in case of a significant disease or major accident that leaves in the hospital for 6 months is nothing?

That is what insurance is for crying out loud. If everyone was guaranteed to need it and get paid benefits, there would be no insurance because it would then be a financial loser.

Hell would you prefer to have been sick or in a wreck so you could have "used it"?

Puterbac, I'm not against insurance. I pay precisely for that major sickness coverage. My point is that my guy who has never had insurance has done fine without it, spending considerably less than I have because he's never had any major ailments. *knocking wood*
