Well according to that link he's a better coach than Kevin Sumlin. And Muschamp. And Skip Holtz (who just got canned). Too bad he's not as good as yabba dabba dabo swinney or Lame Kiffin.bluetick wrote:http://aol.sportingnews.com/ncaa-footba ... roy-calhou
Holy shit. From the May 2012 coaches' ranking from the Sporting News:
28. BUTCH JONES, CINCINNATI
Age 44
At Cincinnati (2 years): 14-11
FBS career (5 years): 41-24
Jones cleaned house in Year 1, dealt with significant injuries and had some wondering about him after a three-win debut. Now look: 10 wins in 2011 from a team that probably shouldn't have reached that high. Next problem for UC: keeping Jones. He won at CMU, he's winning at Cincy. Another big season should lead to a big BCS job (hello, Tennessee).
An NFL scout says: "If you're just looking at the surface, you see him winning with what Brian Kelly built. Don't believe that garbage. He can coach. He was one of those guys a few years ago where you just knew things were coming his way. He's not done, either. Not by a longshot."

I think the Sugar was Cinci's second BCS bowl. They went to the Orange the year before, iirc.
I proudly took AFAM 040 at Carolina.

Tubby will recruit terribly, but make good teams out of his 2 and 3 star players.

He recruited relatively poorly for a prominent SEC school but as a recognizable name at Cincinnati? He'll do well.Professor Tiger wrote:Tubby will recruit terribly, but make good teams out of his 2 and 3 star players.

Beats Cleveland???Jungle Rat wrote:Dantino left Cincy before his bowl game. Hell, Kelly left UC for ND before their first ever BCS game in the Sugar. (my Gators killed them). UC is used to it. Next stepping stone coach will do the same. UC will never be but a stepping stone but its a good place to spend 3 years.

Tee Martin brought his family to Knoxville and he's in a meeting with Jones right now. If Butch can pull that off...grab Tee from Lame and that So Cal beach...well, he'll definitely be on a roll.

I had no idea he was on the staff at USC with Lame of all people. What position does he coach? I'm guessing QB?bluetick wrote:Tee Martin brought his family to Knoxville and he's in a meeting with Jones right now. I'm reading up on Tee Martin on the 'net now. Wow. I had no idea he did what all he did. He's done. Congrats to him. Wide receivers coach. Thats awesome. Sounds like if he came here and everything fell into place, this is the type of situation where he could work his way up here to possibly bigger and better things such as HC someday ala Fulmer. That's freaking awesome.

Re: Tennessee Volunteers
It appears Coach Jones has brought just about all of his staff with him. Here is an article at VolQuest listing his staff and a brief intro to each of them:
Meet the Vol Coaching Staff
I wish we could've kept Chaney but it didn't happen. It appears he wanted everyone from his previous. I'm glad to see we managed to keep Jay Graham. I wonder why? It would be nice to think Jones wanted and kept Graham because he thought he was awesome. However, I suspect the person who was the running backs position coach at Cinci either sucked, Jones didn't him, or that person didn't want to come for some reason.
I'm liking how the defensive coordinator has some SEC experience at GA. They had a good defense during his years there.
