Think about how bad the Noles would feel right now if they were 11-0 going into the Florida game, and then lose like that? Forget the ACC championship vs Georgia Tech, Goodbye MNC shot, settle for the Orange Bowl.

It would be disappointing but most Noles knew we would need some breaks to reach the MNC game this year. We have the talent, especially on defense, but we needed EJ to step up and be "the man". He has been pedestrian the last half of the year. So how would we feel? Like we have several times in the 90s where we were "oh so close" but not quite good enough. This was probably our best chance for a while but without a quality QB/OC combo, this is about as good as it will get.

pedestrian? you're being generous...the guy is bi-polar...he can move the team down the field like a knife through butter and turn around and lose 20 yards and go three and out

The NCState loss could have gone either way. It certainly didn't impress the BOT at NCState. Being only one of two coaches in the country to beat the Noles didn't save TOBy's job. (Ironic.)

Florida was a good ole fashioned butt whipping. I mean given the 4th quarter, it was pretty obvious that FSU's athletes and linemen were just out of steam. They were out-athleted, out-strengthed, out-fitnessed, out-everythinged by the Gators by the 4th. FSU had no gas left in the tank. And that would have dropped them from #1 (where they would have been with Notre Dame at #2) down to about #6 or even #7. No MNC, sorry Noles. State is recruiting better, but there are still probably 4 or 5 teams in the SEC that recruit a serious notch above FSU (and that includes Florida.)

No. Bama, yes. UF, sometimes. UGA, rarely. LSU recruits well defensively. And none of them recruits "a serious notch above FSU", it's negligible. Bama unquestionably coaches their athletes better than anyone else.

FSU under Jimbo has been great recruiting. Can't even believe this is being questioned.

I hear FSU is going to probably swallow a major loss on the Orange Bowl. No one wants to go to this game and they have a pretty big ticket allotment they're going to eat.

I might have gone but I'm taking my son to the Capital One game (he's a huge UGA fan - go figure).

So they're putting Shoney's out of business just to get 4 people to the game?

Will we have any assistant coaches left by the start of next season or will Jimbo assume full control and do everything?

Stoops (DC), Eliot (DE, by FAR the best improvement at any position), Eddie Gran (RB/ST, outstanding recruiter), and possibly Dameyune Craig (QB, also outstanding recruiter). We held onto Coley (OC) who is apparently a good recruiter but I don't know if he's great, and he's certainly no more than a titular coach. I've actually read that the guy can coach but it'd be nice if Jimbo would let him give it a shot.

I hate losing Eliot and Craig most of all. Stoops has done a great job but with the talent he's been handed by the rest of the staff, I think he's replaceable. I can't blame Gran, he's been stuck as RB coach for quite a while now and really wants to do more.

Good hire, Noles. I knew that Pruitt would be a DC soon. I will say this though: if you don't have the following three things, it will be a long year until you can recruit:

(1) a dominating NG

(2) a stable of quick LBs for OLB and a stable of bigger, run-stopping LBs for ILB

(3) corners who can play good man2man for 4 seconds
